Awards season is starting a little early for Jordan Peele this year. The Oscar-winning director and writer has been named by BAFTA LA as a recipient of the John Schlessinger Britannia Award for excellence in directing. He will receive this award next month on October 25th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Other honorees include Jane Fonda, who is receiving the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for excellence in film, and Jackie Chan who is set to receive the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for worldwide contribution to entertainment. Steve Coogan will also be honored at the event with the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for excellence in comedy.

BAFTA Los Angeles CEO Chantal Rickards released a statement announcing Peele’s award. “Jordan Peele has earned record-breaking success and critical acclaim through work that pushes boundaries and shines a light on stories of important social relevance. His imaginative storylines, inclusive casting, and bold style evokes John Schlesinger’s spirit of independence, integrity, and commitment to excellence. We are honored to celebrate Jordan’s talents at this year’s ceremony.”

Best known for cutting his teeth, so to speak, on Key and Peele, Jordan Peele has only made two films but already become one of the defining creative voices of his generation. Get Out was an immediate cultural touchstone when it released in 2017. This year’s follow-up, Us, didn’t have the same cultural impact as his debut feature. But, its ambition solidified Peele’s place among the Mount Rushmore of contemporary visionary directors. Most recently, he hosted and curated a new season of The Twilight Zone, which was recently renewed for a second season.
