Eric Bledsoe is not long for Phoenix. The Suns sent him home after his “I don’t want to be here” tweet, and now they’re trying to move him. Detroit was one rumored destination for Bledsoe; the Pistons reportedly offered Reggie Jackson and a first-round draft pick, but the Suns wanted a third team to take on Jackson.
Pistons Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Stan Van Gundysays that he's assured Jackson that he won't be dealt for Bledsoe, however. From Rod Beard of the Detroit News:
“It was crazy yesterday,” Van Gundy said Friday. “I left practice yesterday and there’s a rumor out on Reggie and Bledsoe so I had to get home and call Reggie and say we’re not trading you for Bledsoe. I don’t usually address all of them but it’s early in the (season). You can’t address all of them at the trade deadline, but I felt the need to address this.”
Stan Van Gundy explained the source of the rumors:
At least 99 percent of the rumors that come out on trades never come to fruition. If [Pistons GM] Jeff Bower talks to anybody — to (Celtics president) Danny Ainge — there’s a rumored Boston trade.
“These guys talk to each other every day — that’s what they do.”
Reggie Jackson said that he hadn’t heard the trade rumors until Van Gundy called him. He said “I don’t pay attention and really don’t care” about rumors.
Bledsoe and Jackson are both 27 years old. Between the two, Bledsoe is the better player, and his contract is $2 million lower annually.
Jackson is averaging 15.5 points and 6.3 assists per game in 10 appearances for the Pistons this season.
