Though it’s never a good time for a tragedy of any variety, Dallas Mavericks Guard Devin Harris will have to battle through a heart-wrenching one to start off his 2016-17 NBA season. According to Eddie Sefko of Dallas Morning News, Harris’ 38-year-old brother Bruce Harris passed away as a result of a fatal early-morning car wreck:
Bruce Harris, the brother of Mavericks guard Devin Harris, died Thursday afternoon from injuries suffered in a fiery crash in the early-morning hours on Central Expressway near Walnut Hill Lane.
The Dallas County medical examiner’s office said Bruce Harris, 38, was pronounced dead at about 12:32 p.m. at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.
Though a lot of these tragic early morning car incidents are sometimes a result of drunk driving, authorities say alcohol was not involved.
Harris died later as a result of his injuries. There was no evidence of alcohol being a factor, police said.
The NBA family continues to mourn the loss of players’ loved ones as this most recent death of Bruce Harris is only the latest in a string of tragedies.
Though Devin Harris played in the Mavs season opener against the Hawks on Wednesday night, the guard was granted dismissal from the team’s Thursday practice. Harris posted 10 points and 2 assists in the opener and averaged 6.7 points and 2.1 assists in a reserve role for Dallas last season.
Expect the Mavericks to allow Harris all the time he needs to get through this tough grieving process. Prayers up for Devin Harris and the rest of the Harris family as they fight through this testing time.
