Monster High in 2022

It’s been a long time since Monster High dolls made their debut in 2010, only to find themselves years later in the catacombs of discontinued doll lines. But good news- Monster High is officially back in session!

Playline Monster High Dolls

Currently exclusive to Walmart, Mattel’s chosen to revisit the past. They’re re-releasing the first wave versions of Frankie, Cleo, Draculaura and Clawdeen. This is great for those that missed the original wave or have dolls who’s rubber bands have broken. (I know all my original dolls are very flopsy!) Comparison photos have shown that the dolls do look a bit different from their original counterparts, but it’s not too drastic.

Skullector Dolls

This recreations are not to be confused with the Haunt Couture or Skullector lines we’ve seen from Mattel Creations. Haute Couture dolls are usually harder to find and are priced higher than what you’ll see at Walmart. They’re pictured above. The even more limited Skullector line has featured Beetlejuice and Lydia, Greta Gremlin, The Grady Twins and Pennywise.

Most recently, Mattel released a collaboration with Universal with their Dracula doll. This doll apparently sold out in under 5 minutes! Personally, I didn’t try for her, because she didn’t really seem worth the $80.00 USD they were asking for her.

The Future

Truthfully, I’m not running out to all my local Walmart stores to find these new Monster High dolls. I own them already and have long stopped collecting the Monster High line as a completest. I don’t even own the majority of the high end dolls, except for Greta. The vast majority have been priced too high for a Monster High doll, in my opinion, and been far too limited even if I had wanted one. I am excited, however, to see where this new re-launch goes and what new things it might bring.

What do you hope Mattel does with this new Monster High series? Let us know in the comments!
