Barbie “Malibu” Roberts and Barbie “Brooklyn” Roberts star in Netflix’s Barbie: It Takes Two, now available to stream. This brand new series follows the characters introduced in Barbie: Big City, Big Dreams. For those, like me, who haven’t seen that special, here’s a brief summery.

“Barbie goes to New York to attend a summer Performing Arts program. There she meets another Barbie Roberts. Despite their quick friendship the two have to compete for the Spotlight Solo in Times Square.” (Quick side note here– whoever wrote this blurb missed a huge opportunity to name drop one of Barbie’s most iconic fashions “Solo in the Spotlight” by tweaking how they worded things a bit!)

Barbie: It Takes Two continues the story with thirteen episodes streaming now and more to come later. Here’s a quick blurb from the press release and the series’ trailer.

“Barbie: It Takes Two follows best friends Barbie “Malibu” Roberts and Barbie “Brooklyn” Roberts as they strive for musical stardom at the prestigious Handler School of Performing Arts in New York City. Caught up in the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps, both “Malibu” and “Brooklyn” soon find that they’ll need to lean on each other, friends old and new, as well as their families if they’re ever going to make their dreams become a reality.

Personally, I haven’t seen the movie that spun off this new series and haven’t seen this new series yet. I have, however, watched my fair share of Barbie Movies and media and, truthfully? I enjoyed them AND still enjoy them to this day. There’s something magical and heartwarming about seeing Barbie on the screen. And while the current Barbie movies may not be my favorites, they seem to always appeal to the target demographic Mattel is shooting for.

One day, I’ll have to rewatch all the Barbie movies. Maybe I’ll even recap them here on the blog or YouTube channel once baby Lena let’s me get back to watching TV shows!
