Barbie Meet Star Wars

From a galaxy far, far away come three high fashion dolls inspired by Star Wars: A New Hope. A collaboration between Mattel and Star Wars, these dolls will retail at $100.00. Set to be released November 18th, you can currently pre-order the trio on Amazon.

Darth Vader

First, let’s take a look at Mattel’s high fashion take on Darth Vader. “Once a heroic Jedi Knight, Darth Vader was seduced by the dark side of the Force, became a Sith Lord, and led the Empire’s eradication of the Jedi Order. This collectible Star Wars x Barbie doll captures Darth Vader’s Sith armor silhouette in a head-to-toe shiny-black ensemble. Metallic details at her collar and waist, dark glasses and an emblematic black cape finish the look.” Order her here.

Princess Leia

Now onto the iconic Princess Leia. “Princess Leia Organa was one of the Rebel Alliance’s greatest leaders, fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the tyranny of the Empire. This collectible Star Wars x Barbie doll captures Princess Leia’s iconic look in an elegant white gown with dramatic, floor-length sleeves. Details include a silvery peplum belt, cuff jewelry and an up-do inspired by her signature bun hairstyle.” Order her here.

R2D2

Barbie Star Wars R2-D2

This R2D2 inspired Barbie may be my favorite in this collaboration. “A resourceful astromech droid, skilled starship mechanic and fighter pilot’s assistant, R2-D2 showed great bravery in rescuing his masters and their friends from many perils. Star Wars R2-D2 x Barbie doll captures the lovable droid’s look in a geometric ensemble with a dome skirt, bomber jacket and thigh-high boots over silvery tights. A vibrant blue ponytail and “radar eye” detail complete the look.” Order her here.

Thoughts…

Not much is known about these dolls other than the information above, so I’m unsure of what kind of body they’re on. It’s hard to tell if they are on an articulated body or not based on promo photos. At $100.00 a doll, I truly hope they’re on a quality body.

I have also seen some criticism about the head mold for Princess Leia, with people saying it should have been made in Carrie Fisher’s image. I agree with them– that would have been pretty cool, if done right.

Honestly, I will probably not be buying these, because the price tag is too rich for my blood, but it’s a cool collaboration. What do you think? Which is your favorite? Let us know in the comment area!
