Meeting a Legend

https://killermoviereviews.files.wordpress.com/2017/09/doloresquote.mp3

Sometimes, I get to meet a legend. Yesterday it was Dolores Huerta, the icon and indefatigable fighter for social justice. The occasion was the documentary, DOLORES, made about her by Peter Bratt, who was also part of the interview. The film tells her story from young Latina wife and mother who dared to speak truth to power in the very white, very male halls of Sacramento’s legislature, through her days working with (not for) Cesar Chavez unionizing farm workers, through her post- United Farm Workers days establishing the Dolores Huerta Foundation, where at 87 she continues her grassroots organizing to give a voice to the voiceless and standing up to oppression.

I spoke to them, appropriately, on Labor Day, when rumors about DACA being rescinded were flying. So I asked them two things about that. One, the importance of the arts in the time of Trump, and, two,  how best to resist Trump in general, and the rescinding in particular.

The full interview will be posted later this week.
