Title: A Rishi Stirring Up a Storm Date: 1897 Artist: John La Farge (1835-1910) Type of art: watercolor and gouache over graphite American artist John La Farge is remembered for his work in several fields: stained glass, illustrations, murals, interior design, and painting. A member of the National Academy of Design and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, he co-founded the Society of American Artists and served as president of the National Society of Mural Painters for several years. La Farge travelled extensively to Asia and the South Pacific, and published a book about his journey. His stained-glass windows adorn many churches on the American east coast, including Trinity Church (Boston), Unity Church of North Easton (Massachusetts), Church of St. Joseph of Arimathea (Greenburgh, New York), St. Paul’s Chapel (Columbia University, NY), and St. Paul’s Chapel (Columbia University, NYC).
