Dream Toy Line: Conan The Barbarian

Crom!

As you may know, I’m a big fan of Neca and I have been collecting their products for eight years and one of their older products has long been on my grail list: Conan The Barbarian Warpaint Conan. I have seen images and reviews of the Figure and I’ve always wanted it and whenever I have looked it up on the secondary market it always goes for crazy prices. NECA’s Conan The Barbarian line was a rather short one and according to NECA, it didn’t sell that well. I know that Super 7 has the license and they are releasing figures from Conan The Barbarian and its sequel Conan The Destroyer and they’ll be releasing Ultimate figures. They are releasing multiple figures of Conan, Thulsa Doom, and some of Doom’s henchman so far.

Also, I know that Marvel has the license to the Conan comics now so I wonder if Hasbro has plans to release a comic book Conan Marvel Legends figure. That would be pretty sweet!

A lot of fans including myself have hoped for years that NECA would revisit the license. And I know that multiple companies can have the same licenses. For example, NECA has the license to release TMNT Cartoon, Videogame, and Movie figures and Super 7 are releasing Ultimate figures based on the original toy line. So it’s not beyond the possibility that NECA may revisit the license as they plan to revisit The Lost Boys license.

I’m not sure what the best approach would be if NECA were to revisit the Conan license but if I had to decide I think it would be best if they released Ultimate figures akin to what they are doing with the Back To The Future line. NECA now uses the face printing tech for some of their licenses such as Evil Dead II, Halloween 2018, and Terminator Dark Fate. The likeness to the actors on those figures is fantastic. I do have to say NECA has always done a fantastic job on their Arnie figures and I imagine a Conan The Barbarian figure would look fantastic!

The Conan figures that NECA released were more like static action figures with limited articulation much like their Cult Classics line. Of course, the new ones would be fully articulated much like all of NECA’s Ultimate figures. Conan had a variety of looks in the film so NECA could release multiple versions of Conan in different outfits and with different accessories. Here’s a list of Conan figures they could release.

  • Pit Warrior Conan
  • Conan (Serpent Temple)
  • Shirtless Conan
  • Warpaint Conanrse
  • Hillfight Conan

I’m not too sure if NECA would release other characters from the film, though they are releasing figures of Biff in the BTTF line so you never know. I would really like to see a figure of Thulsa Doom. I’m not sure if they would release figures of Valeria, Subotai, King Osric, The Wizard, or Doom’s henchman, though they would be fun additions to the line.

I absolutely adore John Milius’s Conan The Barbarian and the film celebrates it’s 40th anniversary in two years’ time so NECA releasing a line of figures to celebrate the film’s anniversary would be awesome.
