5 things about where to spend the heatwave in London: Shaved Ice Gin Pop Up Bar in Belgravia, ROKU X Pantechnicon

One

This summer, Roku Gin, Pantechnicon – a six-storey venue that combines retail with Nordic and Japanese eateries – and London neighbourhood Belgravia have collaborated to create an exceptional Japanese-inspired Gin experience. Just launched, and open until 11 September, the Roku Gin Summer Terrace at Pantechnicon is situated in Halkin Arcade on Motcomb Street, Belgravia, to offer the best of summer in the city with an immersive outdoor drinking and dining destination.

With it being the first summer without any restrictions post-pandemic, festivities are forecasted throughout the capital and the Roku Terrace at Pantechnicon is set to provide visitors a taste of Japan in Belgravia, one of London’s chicest neighbourhoods. This new destination combines a carefully curated menu of Kakigori, Roku shaved-ice gin cocktails, as well as authentic street food dishes, all set against a stunning bar backdrop, inspired by artist Ikko Tanaka.

Two

Kakigori, the drink of the summer season, is traditionally a Japanese shaved ice dessert, but the menu at the Roku Gin Summer Terrace at Pantechnicon will deliver it with a difference. There will be an eclectic choice of flavoured shaved ice Roku cocktails, underpinned by a selection of the brand’s six signature botanicals that characterise the unique seasonality of Roku gin, which ingredients are harvested at the peak of every season. Visitors can sit, soak up the sunshine and choose from a selection of Kakigori, from Darjeeling & Strawberry and Melon & Matcha to Salted Yuzu, which combines Roku gin, Yuzu Sake, honey and salt. Behind the bar will be Pantechnicon’s master mixologist Gento Torigata, ex Jigger & Pony, who crafted the menu and will be delivering an unrivalled cocktail experience alongside his team throughout the summer.

Three

Pantechnicon’s team of expert chefs have also created a delicious menu of light bites to perfectly pair with the drink selection. This will include a number of traditional Japanese street food items such as octopus Takoyaki, a delicious fried battered snack, Veganyaki, with kimchi and vegan cheese, and Yuzuyaki, sweet cardamom pancake balls with yuzu curd and strawberry. For those wanting to learn more about the menu in practice, the Roku Gin experience at Pantechnicon will also be hosting Takoyaki masterclasses throughout the summer, especially paired with Roku cocktails.

The bar is striking in design, drawing on Japanese artist Ikko Tanaka’s iconic graphic design style, which fuses modernism and tradition; the Gin Terrace will incorporate the texture and aesthetic of Ikko’s bold, geometrical style with beautiful wooden finishes, lenticular installations and planting creating a stunning backdrop in which to drink, dine and unwind.

Four

Brett Mendoza-Farias, operations director at Pantechnicon said: “The terrace is a private, sun-drenched space adorned with Japanese flora and fauna, ideal for a multitude of celebrations from low key catch ups with friends to larger festivities and private takeovers. Crafted by Pantechnicon’s team of expert mixologists, I predict the shaved ice Roku gin cocktails to be trending this summer – the Salted Yuku is a personal favourite. To complement, we’ll be cooking up traditional sweet and savoury Japanese street food snacks, so drop by and see us from 30th June!”

Five

Paul O’ Grady, Director of Belgravia said:“We are very excited to be working in collaboration with Pantechnicon and the brilliant Roku Gin. Especially following the Platinum Jubilee, there is a real buzz in the air in London and lots of anticipation for summer in the city. The Roku Gin Terrace at Pantechnicon is a fun and innovative concept designed to give people a real sense of escapism, where they can experience delicious Japanese-inspired cocktails and cuisine in a beautiful, tranquil setting, whilst in the heart of bustling Belgravia just minutes from Knightsbridge and Hyde Park.”
