Costa misses Penalty but Chelsea enjoy advantage

Chelsea stop Liverpool in a 1-1 draw at Anfield which makes them favorites of winning title in Antonio Conte’s maiden spell for the blues.

Arsenal went down to Watford and Tottenham played a goal less draw which means Chelsea remains 9 points clear at the top of table.

Liverpool enjoyed possession in their first 15 minutes, while David Luiz utilized Mignolet’s lack of concentration on a free kick to fire Chelsea ahead in the first half.

Second half had major action on the game as Wijnaldum scored through a header to bring back hosts in the game. Costa was awarded with penalty after Matip challenged him on the box. Although the challenge looked fair enough at replay, it was always a tough decision for Mark Clattenberg to make during high intensity game. Mignolet rectified his first half mistake as he saved Costa’s penalty fired left and low.

Liverpool could have seal the game and grabbed all three points, although the flop of the match, Firmino missed a chance to get ahead in the extra time as his header from close range had less power and directed to Courtois hand.

Although Liverpool escaped unwanted 90 years record of four consecutive home defeat, it was never enough for Klopp and his side. The only positive fans could take from the game was Mane’s introduction late in second half which increased the intensity of Liverpool attack.
