Strange clause in Firmino’s contract

Roberto Firmino has a €98 million release clasue that can be activated by any club with the exception of Arsenal, as per the most recent Football Leaks revealed in Le Soir.

The Gunners annoy Liverpool authorities in 2013 by offering £40m + £1 for Luis Suarez in the conviction it would trigger a purchase out proviso in the striker’s agreement, with Reds proprietor John W. Henry tweeting accordingly: “What do you believe they’re smoking over yonder at the Emirates?”

What’s more, Liverpool seem to have made retributive move by indicating in Firmino’s arrangement that he can be purchased for €98m (£82m) “if the intrigued club is not Arsenal”.

Firmino marked for Liverpool from Hoffenheim in June 2015, with the Brazilian forward concurring a “long haul” contract at Anfield.
