Artificial Intelligence and eCommerce : How to Dominate Long-Tail Keywords Using Microsites with AI

Artificial intelligence and the implications of AI are going to touch every single industry in the next five to 10 years. When most people think about AI, we think of the different effects on different industries.

But most people fail to understand the fact that AI can be an umbrella, and that all these elements could be under that umbrella because AI has the capability to integrate between different systems, different data sets, different industries, and different types of logic. That’s why when you go to OpenAI, you can be a writer and write articles. You can be a poet and write poems. You can be a legal expert and write legal papers.

So believe it or not, AI is not so much about the code or the industry or the objective. AI is more about the types of questions that you ask and the data sets that you feed to reach an ultimate objective.

If you haven’t already heard this, Microsoft has agreed to invest $1.5 billion into OpenAI.

But for most people, AI is still a concept out there that they do not understand. So if you’re interested in AI, you should definitely visit futuretools.io which is a website that gives you the different types of applications for AI and the different tools that you could use today. And if you ask us, “All of this is good and futuristic information, but how can I apply this to my business? How can I make money from AI?”, I am going to give you one execution that works like a charm, and it’s called an AI microsite strategy.

Creating Microsites with AI

A microsite is basically a very niche website that actually starts from scratch and the whole purpose is to dominate a micro section of an industry, a niche category on Google search results as well as on paid search.

What purpose do these Microsites created with AI serve?

Let me give you an example.

Let’s say that you have an eCommerce website and you sell RC toys. Now, when you think about RC toys, or if you go to Google and type RC toys or Buy RC toys, scroll all the way to the bottom of Google, you’re going to see the suggestions by Google. Now, if you take RC toys, this specific keyword and put it into a tool like SpyFu and look at the keyword universes, spyfu.com is going to tell you what the universes are under that specific keyword.

Now, if you’re into RC toys, you might like RC planes, you might like RC boats, you might like RC cars, etc. These are all different keyword universes.

Again, it is impossible for a website to rank top three on Google for all of these different keyword universes.

But what if you had the best prices and the best selection and the best access to manufacturers for RC boats in the United States?

Infinite eCommerce Possibilities with Microsites

So what you would do is you would create a site like rcboatsusa.com. Now, domain selection is very important here, and this works beautifully for local businesses.

But if I do rcboatsusa.com and register this domain, that’s still a very generic term. It’s not niche enough and the competition out there is fierce for RC toys. You might rank for RC boats, but the odds of you ranking there are still not great. And how much money do you make from RC boats? If you sell one RC boat, let’s say you’re going to make 150, $200. It’s not enough revenue to justify this type of a strategy.

But what if I was a mortgage broker in Miami, Florida?

What if I was only focusing on anybody that buys a house in Coral Gables in Miami, in Florida? How much money would I make as a mortgage broker or a realtor if I sold a million-dollar home in Coral Gables, Miami, Florida?

Anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000? So the average order volume is big enough for me to justify this because I wouldn’t really need thousands of visitors. I would probably only need 500 to 1,000 unique targeted visitors to that website.

This is when this strategy really works like a charm. With this strategy, you could make anywhere from $50,000 to $250,000 a year. If you already have a service or a product where the average order volume is high, I would do maybe $5,000 and up.

I’ll give you a completely different industry. What if I was selling used Rolex watches in Coral Gables, Florida? So I register a domain called usedrolexcoralgables.com.

Now, every time I sell a used Rolex watch, I’m making thousands of dollars depending on what type of watch. There are Rolex watches that sell for 3,000. There are Rolex watches that sell for $100,000 plus, but I still get that traffic.

Overall, what are the benefits of creating multiple microsites with AI?

  • Increased online visibility: Microsites can target specific keywords and topics, making it easier to rank higher in search engines and attract more qualified leads.
  • Improved user experience: Microsites can be designed and optimized specifically for a specific target audience, providing a better user experience and increasing the likelihood of conversion.
  • Improved lead generation: By targeting long-tail keywords, microsites can attract more specific and qualified leads, increasing the likelihood of conversion and reducing the cost of lead acquisition.
  • Increased return on investment: By focusing on a specific target audience, microsites can generate more qualified leads and drive a higher return on investment.
  • Cost-effective: Compared to a full-scale redesign or marketing campaign, microsites can be an affordable way to quickly and effectively reach new target markets and generate leads.

How do you start implementing this strategy?

So now that we’ve covered the domain name that you’re going to select, let’s get into the strategy.

Finding your target keywords for your Microsite

You’re going to start with only 10 long-tail keywords. So let’s take Rolex as an example.

Let’s say we registered usedrolexcoralgables.com, and then under that I’m going to have 10 pages, 10 product pages, 10 content pages. The homepage will target used Rolex Coral Gables. Another page will target pre-owned Rolex Coral Gables. Another one will target certified Rolex Coral Gables. And the other six or seven, can be very popular Rolex models. Let’s say Rolex Hulk, used Rolex Hulk, or used Diamond Rolex. These keyword universes are very long tail. So you’re only creating 10 pages of content.

Creating content for your microsite pages using AI

To create content for those 10 pages on your microsite, you go to ChatGPT and you tell AI to write these articles. Once AI writes these articles, it will not be perfect. But these articles need to be 2,000 words or more.

But, ChatGPT doesn’t write 2,000 or 3,000 word articles. So the first thing you’re going to need is an outline. So you use ChatGPT to write an article outline for “used Rolex in Coral Gables”, and the AI will give you an outline. Then once you have your outline, copy-paste it. Now for every section you’re going to ask the AI to write you 300 word sections. This will probably take you 30 minutes or so and you have your 2,000 to 3,000 word article.

Once you have this 2,000 to 3,000 word article, this part is very important because AI can leave footprints.

And you want to get rid of that footprint for the Google algorithm to work. So there’s this other tool called writer.com. It costs like 50 bucks per month. You copy-paste the 2,000 to 3,000 word article into writer.com and you optimize it.

And you do this for 10 to 11 different subjects. In the end you have about 10 – 11 articles that are 2,000 to 3,000 words long, ready to go.

Setting up your hyper-specific Microsite

You go to wordpress.com or you go to create a WordPress site. You’ve already registered your domain name, which was usedrolexcoralgables.com. The design and the structure doesn’t matter too much. After you are done with creating those pages, create a contact us page. If you are already a business selling Rolex watches, you basically link your contact us buttons and links to your main website’s contact us page. If you want to use this for lead generation purposes so people can contact you, just put a contact form on every single page you created before so it is easier to reach out and convert customers.

So for eCommerce, they would find this site and click your link and go to your website. And for lead generation or B2B, they would contact you. They would submit a form or call you and you have your leads, which are inbound leads.

Up keep for your Microsite

Now when your website is all set, content and links wise, you are going to need to install some plugins to keep your microsite functioning.

You’re going to need the All-In-One SEO plugin so that you can optimize the titles and meta descriptions. You’re going to need an XML site map and you’re going to need to take that XML site mapping and submit it to Google Search Console, so that Google indexes pages.

And the last piece is you are going to build three to five backlinks every single month for this site.

Increasing visibility, acquiring backlinks and tracking your Microsite traffic

If you don’t know what backlinks are, Google it because you should know if you’re a business owner. Backlinks are going to push the authority to your site so that it’s indexed and ranking high.

Backlinks do not have to be from websites with crazy authority like 90 or 80. And they will probably cost you $100 to $200 per month.

The next step is to install Google Tag Manager and make sure all your tags are set up. If you have another website that’s called usedrolex.com, which is your main eCommerce business website, you can use the same pixels. Because, whomever is visiting usedrolexcoralgables.com, can also be an audience for your main website. This will help you then retarget this audience with your main brand name. But remember this is traffic is really niche, it is so specific taht you would have never ranked for with your main website.

Finding new angles for new microsites

There is another trick you can use to find a good Microsite angle to go after those long-tail keywords.

If you sell nationwide, you go to trends.google.com, you put used Rolex into search, and trends.google.com will find you the top three cities or top three states or top three metropolitan areas where people search the most for the keyword used Rolex.

Since now you have this microsite strategy for one angle, all you have to do is rerun the AI process. You can have 3, 5, 10 angles or cities dominated and it will take you 90 days to 120 days to dominate the city searches. Essentially, at the end of 12 months this traffic could be worth millions for you.

At Optimum 7 we are doing this for Bigcommerce, Shopify, and SEO as we speak. Now you might say, “If 20, 30, 40 people do this, what’s the difference in who ranks higher?” It’s how well you execute this, how well written your content is, and how good your back links are.

But I can assure you that nobody is doing this in 99.9% of the industries.

Conclusion

Now, what you’re going to do monthly is you’re going to add two to four sections to these sites every single month. This is a strategy. It is not set it and forget it.

You are also going to keep acquiring two to three backlinks every single month.

The site map needs to look active. And as a last step, what you want to do is you want to spend a few hundred dollars and get paid traffic to these sites. It can be on the Google Display Network because those clicks cost about 10 to 15 cents each. It could be on YouTube. Google loves to see traffic from paid search.

If you complete this cycle, which from an hourly investment standpoint should not take you more than 10 hours, you have $1 million if you’re already running a legitimate business. It doesn’t matter in what industry. All you need is to have a service or a product that has an average order volume of anywhere from $500 to $10,000.

Now at Optimum 7, we create an optimized strategy just like the one I mentioned above. If you are looking for a microsite strategy, if you want to make an additional million dollars in the next 12 months, or if you have any questions, please contact us.
