Karnan controversy: Udhaynidhi Stalin points out an error in Dhanush starrer; director Mari Selvaraj reacts

Karnan has found itself in yet another controversy. The Dhanush starrer action-drama Film directed by Mari Selvaraj has come under the radar of some section of people. They have called out the makers for making a factual error in the film. Karnan is said to be inspired/ based on the Kodiyankulam Caste Riots that took place in 1995. However, in Karnan, it is shown that the riots took place in 1997. This has led to a massive outcry in the state now. As the elections are coming up, a small factual error has been turned into a huge blunder. For those not in the know, Udhayanidhi Stalin's grandfather, M. Karunanidhi former Chief Minister of the state was elected as the chief minister (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam political party) in 1996. And the riots had taken place a year ago when late J Jayalalithaa's AIADMK was in power.

Now, the DMK supporters along with Udhayanidhi Stalin have raised the concern with the makers of Karnan. And the makers have heard their pleas and have assured to get the factual error rectified in the next few days. While Udhayanidhi Stalin, heaped praises on Dhanush and the cast and crew of the film, he pointed out the error in the tweet and also shared Mari Selvaraj's reaction to the same. His tweet read, "The film is based on the Kodiyankulam Caste Riots of 1995 when the AIADMK was in power, but it is shown as taking place in 1997 in the film. DMK was in power in 1997 and I have pointed this out to the producers and the director. They have assured me that this error will be corrected in a couple of days." Check it out below:

Talking about the incident of Kodiyankulam caste riots of 1995, as per the reports, about 600 police personnel had allegedly entered Tirunelveli's Kodiyankulam village and terrorized everyone. Reportedly, the 600 police personnel had attacked everyone including women, children and the elderly and destroyed their food grains and sources of drinking water. Reportedly, there were some distress between two regions and the communities based in those regions.

Meanwhile, Dhanush's Karnan is on fire as the film has been declared a huge hit despite 50 percent occupancy due to COVID-19.He will be next seen in Atrangi Re alongside Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar. He has a Hollywood project in the pipeline called The Gray Man co-starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Reg -Jean Page to name a few.
