From Nanban To Shankar Dada MBBS: 5 South Films Inspired From Bollywood Blockbusters

From the past two decades, we have seen many South blockbusters getting Remade in Bollywood and turning out to be box office spinners. Films like Simmba, Wanted, Rowdy Rathore, Kabir Singh, Holiday and others are some examples. But you might have very less idea that there are south films, which got inspired by our Bollywood hits. While there are many, we have shortlisted some of them. So, let's check them out...

Nanban from 3 Idiots

Rajkumar Hirani's 3 Idiots is one of the landmark films of Indian cinema, which not only became the first movie to enter the Rs 200 crore club but also opened the doors of Chinese market to Hindi films. In 2012, Shankar remade 3 Idiots in Tamil with the title, which featured Thalapathy Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana D'Cruz, Sathyaraj and Sathyan in key roles.

Shankar Dada MBBS from Munna Bhai MBBS

And we have another Rajkumar Hirani's blockbuster, which was remade in south. In fact, the film was remade in four languages Chiranjeevi, Srikanth, Sonali Bendre, Paresh Rawal's Shankar Dada M.B.B.S. (Telugu), Kamal Haasan, Sneha, Prabhu, Prakash Raj starrer Vasool Raja MBBS (Tamil), Upendra, Uma, Anant Nag's Uppi Dada M.B.B.S. (Kannada) and Ranjan Ramanayake, Ruwangi Rathnayake's Dr. Nawariyan (Sinhala).

Gabbar Singh from Dabangg

Salman Khan's commercial entertainer Dabangg was remade in Telugu as Gabbar Singh with Power Star Pawan Kalyan. The all-time blockbuster also featured Shruti Haasan, Abhimanyu Singh, Ajay, Nagineedu and Kota Srinivasa Rao in noted roles.

Settai from Delhi Belly

Abhinay Deo's black comedy Delhi Belly, which was lauded for its unconventional narrative and performances, was remade in Tamil as Settai. It featured Arya, Anjali, Santhanam, Premji and Hansika Motwani in key roles.

Unnaipol Oruvan from A Wednesday

Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher's A Wednesday was a treat for the audience as we saw two stalwarts of acting sharing the screen space in Neeraj Pandey's thriller. The sleeper was remade as Unnaipol Oruvan, which starred Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal in lead roles.
