Actor Ranvir Shorey, his house help and driver recently went through a horrendous ordeal courtesy the high-handed attitude of a cop. What makes it all the more surprising is that the cop is from the Mumbai Police force, usually known for its fair decisions. Apparently, his help's wife was about to deliver a baby and the hospital was refusing to file paperwork without the father being present (the patriarchy and buffoonery of which can be reserved to discuss on another day).
In this instance, the cop in question had tried impounding Ranvir Shorey's car and had detained him along with his help and driver for more than 8 hours, actually stating that the delivery of a child isn't an emergency, and threatening to lodge an FIR against the poor driver. After all this time and effort being wasted, the trio was finally let off without an FIR or the car being impounded, but not before a series of tweets by the actor resulted in intervention both from the Mumbai Police's Twitter account and Aditya Thackeray.
Read the actor's ordeal in his tweets below:
@MumbaiPolice My car being impounded for taking my household help for his wife's delivery to hospital. Officer in charge says a child being delivered is not an emergency. Please advise.

Saddened and disappointed that the transgression and highhandedness of one policeman is going to cost me my car, and an FIR against my innocent driver. Even after 3 hours, there has been no redressal of my complaints . @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice @DGPMaharashtra

On the brighter side, thanks for getting me out of the house. It's been a while.
PS: I'm still waiting at the police station. @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice @CMOMaharashtra

3 hapless people made to wait for more than 6 hours. What are we being punished for? @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice @DGPMaharashtra

After more than 8 hours, we have been let go. No FIR, car not impounded. Thank you, @MumbaiPolice @CPMumbaiPolice for listening, albeit a bit late. I may have lost 8 hours, but not my faith in you.

Exhausted. Thanks for listening, y'all. Gnite.

Despite the trying times we're living in, we sincerely hope that cops all over display better judgment in such cases.
