Men In Black Actor And Emmy Winner Rip Torn Dies At 88

Hollywood star Rip Torn, who featured in films like Men In Black, Time Limit, Pork Chop Hills and the popular Larry Sanders Show died yesterday at his home in the afternoon. His publicist told the press he died with Amy Wright, and daughters Katie Torn and Angelica Page by his side but the cause of death has not been revealed yet. Born in Temple, Texas, in 1931, the actor was nominated for six Emmys for his work in famous Larry Sanders Show and won in 1996. The character of Rip was based on Fred De Cordova, the longtime producer of Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show. He also garnered nominations for The Atlanta Child Murders, Chicago Hope and 30 Rock.

The actor also garnered an Oscar nomination for essaying the role of a drunkard father in Martin Ritt drama Cross Creek opposite Mary Steenburgen in 1984. Known for giving kickass interviews, in 2006, he told New York Times, "Don't they say they have a volatile temper and emotions? Yeah, sure they do! They're not saying they like a nice mild guy. Look at Sean Penn."

Lately, the actor was seen in films like Dodgeball, Marie Antoinette, 3 Weeks to Daytona and Bridge of Names. The actor is survived by sister Patricia, and his grandchildren Elijah, Tana, Emeris and Hannah.
