I Would Have Directed Sanju With A Different Approach, Says Sanjay Dutt's Close Friend Mahesh Manjrekar

Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal starrer Sanju was the biggest hit of last year with the worldwide collections of more than Rs 550 crore at the worldwide box office. Despite being a huge success, the Film was criticized by a certain section of the audience, who said it's a propaganda film and has been made to establish Sanjay Dutt's clean image. Filmmaker and actor Mahesh Manjrekar, who is a close friend of Sanjay Dutt and made a cameo in Sanju was also disappointed but his reason is quite different.

In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Mahesh said, I have seen Sanju, and it is a well-made commercial film. However, it left a lot unexplored. I would have directed it with a different approach. Hirani was on a journey to make a commercial film, and the numbers suggest that he has succeeded in doing so. As a film, I enjoyed it, but as a biopic, I was a little disappointed. Well, the filmmaker has a valid justification and we agree with him.

Mahesh Manjrekar and Sanjay Dutt have worked together in films like Vaastav, Hathyar, Kurukshetra, Pitaah, Viruddh and many more. Produced under the banners of Rajkumar Hirani Films and Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films, Sanju also stars Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Jim Sarbh, Sonam Kapoor and Dia Mirza in pivotal roles. The film again grabbed the headlines recently as director Rajkumar Hirani, was accused by a crew member of sexual allegations. Though the filmmaker denied all the allegations.
