Aramm movie review: Nayanthara’s portrayal of IAS officer and the supporting cast leave critics highly impressed

Aramm, one of the many women-centric films of this year, released today and critics are going gaga over everything about the film. It’s not just Nayanthara, who is making them rave about the film, but also the way that the socio-political issues are dealt with, in the film. It’s a story about a village which is reeling through acute drinking water shortage and how this IAS officer takes things in her hands to change its course. If critics are loving the way Nayanthara‘s performance calling it career-best, they are also impressed by the look and feel of the film. Check out a few reactions right here…

Indian Express gave it 4 stars saying, “Nayanthara is convincing in the role of an idealistic IAS officer, who put the needs of the people before the demands of the politicians. As director-writer, Gopi creates a tensed atmosphere with a deep element of a thriller as a young life is at stake. Cinematographer Om Prakash’s work adds layers to the narration, as he visually takes us to the day-to-day compromises and sacrifices people have to make in rural India. Well, Ghibran’s music makes the scenes work more effectively.”

Firstpost gave 3.5 for the brilliant technical aspect of the film. The review reads, “Nayanthara, shorn of her commercial glam heroine image, is the pivot around which the film revolves. She is consistently credible. The actress  is also aided by a terrific cast of supporting actors in Sunnu Lakshmi, Ramachandran Durairaj, Vela Ramamurthy and the Kaaka Muttai boys Ramesh and Vignesh. Technically, the film is brilliant. Om Prakash’s camera gives the correct colour tone and parched feel to Aramm, while Ghibran’s great background score,  action choreographer  Peter Hein’s work and Ruben’s crisp editing add to the overall package. On the downside, the film at times gives the feeling of a documentary. The rescue scenes at the bore-well also remind you of the Malayalam director Bharathan’s 1990 film Malootty.”

Sify commends the fact that despite having a big star like Nayanthara in the lead, the filmmakers didn’t try to make her larger than life. The review mentions, “No introduction, songs or punchlines for Nayan who plays the role of Madhivadhani IAS who is the head strong district collector with a heart. Nayan is aided by a terrific supporting cast that doesn’t miss a beat. Ramachandran Durairaj, Sunu Lakshmi, Ramesh, Vignesh, Vela Ramamurthy and every single one of them is in superb form.”

Moral of the story: Don’t make the mistake of missing this Nayanthara film!
