Stunning Early Entries From the 2017 National Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year Contest

For seven weeks now, photographers from all over the world have been submitting their best entries to the National Geographic contest for the Nature Photographer of the Year award. To say these images are excellent would  be an understatement. From never-before-seen angles, to soothing nature landscapes and wild animals ruling their kingdoms, you can begin to grasp how diverse our world is and how little we know about it.

This year’s categories include wildlife, landscapes, aerials, and underwater shots. Every week, there seem to be new gems in the contest and new favourites for the anticipating audience. There’s one question lingering in the air – who will win the prestigious award this year? One thing is clear, competition is fierce and we will take a look at some of our favourites from the editors’ picks for each of the seven weeks.

Some images from the competition are extremely emotional. The hard work of some of the most talented photographers seeps in from the stunning shots. Photographers are competing for a $10,000 grand prize with four category winners. The winning image will be published in an upcoming issue of the National Geographic magazine. There’s still time for you to submit your best photos and compete for the upcoming title and awards.
