Eiichiro Oda Forced Netflix into Doing Expensive One Piece Reshoots So That it Doesn’t Become Another Death Note

One Piece, the best-selling manga series ever, is looking forward to another adaptation by none other than Netflix. While the anime already has a fandom behind it, fans are now more hype than ever to see how the live adaptation turns out to be.

It was at One Piece‘s San Diego Comic-Con 2023 panel that Netflix revealed an emotional letter they received from Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the series himself, expressing his thoughts about the live-action show.

What Does The Letter Say

The letter presented by Netflix at the convention unveiled how Oda pushed Netflix to reshoot some of the scenes from the show, saying they “weren’t good enough to put out into the world.”
Oda also claimed that initially, some dialogues did not look good to him on paper, but when he saw Inaki Godoy playing Luffy acting those lines out, he felt great about it.

The creator went on to say how it is just another month before the show finally launches on August 31st and how he can’t wait for it.

Why Eiichiro Oda’s Participation Is A Good Thing

While Netflix may have some of the best shows and documentaries ever produced, it still lacks when it comes to manga and anime adaptations. In fact, the streaming platform has managed to gain a negative reputation when it comes to live adapting anime and manga, as seen with Death Note and Bleach.

However, Eiichiro Oda’s participation this time around in One Piece‘s live adaptation can help change things for good. Proper guidance from the creator himself as the cast and producers being familiar with the content itself puts them at an advantage never seen before in creating a live-action adapted show or a film.

While the above said does not necessarily guarantee the success of the upcoming show, there is still some surety of how it will be a big hit amongst the fans as they wait eagerly for it to release on August 31, 2023
