Foxygen

Occasionally, a Collection of songs stand tall. They rise above the hum cast out by the relentless and overwhelming volume of Music that is released every week, and they are distinguishable. In a world of diminishing musical expectation, these islands of quality need to be embraced and shared.

So I will do my bit with Foxygen and their album 'Take The Kids Off Broadway', 7 addictive songs by Jonathan Rado and Sam France, 2 indie psych-pop evolutionaries from Westlake Village, California.

'Take The Kids Off Broadway' is joyous collection of songs that are strong enough to grasp the gaze of contemporary guitar music, which has in recent years drifted away from a pre 1980's retro aesthetic. Like the Brian Jonestown Massacre before them, Foxygen have swam against this current, and have shown that the era of Reed, Television and the Doors can still provide creative possibilities for modern artists. I like this. For me, Foxygen's music offers a bold statement, which is liberated from the confines of revivalism, and which harnesses the best of what was, whilst embracing the creative possibilities of what is.
