Company results:

Boots UK have reported a decrease in revenue from £6.9bn to£6.8bn for the 12 months ending 21 August 2017. Pre-tax profits decreased to £498.0m from £523.0m for the same period. (Source: Retail Gazette)

Halfords have reported a 3.7% increase in group revenue to £1.1bn for the 52 weeks ending 30 March 2018. UK retail sales increased by 4.1% to £977.2m while retail like-for-like sales increased by 2.3% for the same period.
Inchcape Group have reported a 2.9% increase in group revenue to £3.0bn for the four months ending 30 April 2018. Distribution and retail revenue increased by 4.1% and 1.9% respectively for the same period.
Kingfisher have reported a 3.7% decrease in total UK and Ireland sales to £1.2bn for three months ending 30 April 2018. B&Q UK and Ireland sales decreased by 8.8% to £828.0m for the same period, whilst Screwfix sales increased by 9.0%.
Matchesfashion have reported a 44.0% increase in revenue to £293.0m for the 12 months ending 31 January 2018. EBITDA increased by 34.0% to £26.0m for the same period. (Source: Retail Gazette)
M&S have reported a 1.8% increase in revenue to £9.6bn for the 52 weeks ending 31 March 2018. Clothing and home sales decreased by 1.4%, while food sales increased by 3.9% for the same period. Despite the small revenue increase, store closure costs have contributed significantly to a pre-tax profit decline of 62.1%. (Source: GlobalData)

Pets at Home have reported a 7.8% increase in group revenue to £898.9m for the 52 weeks ending 29 March 2018. However, underlying profit before tax decreased by 12.3% to £84.5m for the same period.
Shoe Zone have reported a 1.1% increase in group revenue to £73.7m for the 26 weeks ending 31 March 2018. UK revenue increased by 1.6%, while online sales increased by 21.0% to £4.9m for the same period. (Source: GlobalData)
Topps Tiles have reported a 3.7% increase in revenue to £110.5m for the 26 weeks ending 31 March 2018. Profit before tax decreased by 32.6% to £6.4m for the same period. Like-for-like sales increased by 0.6% for the same period.

Zara have opened a new flagship store at London’s Westfield Stratford City shopping centre. Iceland have announced that their founder Sir Malcolm Walker has taken up a new role as the Alzheimer’s Society Ambassador. Walker is determined for Iceland to become UK’s number one dementia-friendly retailer. (Source: Company Press Release)

Iceland have also become the first UK supermarket to install an in-store reverse vending machine in response to the government’s plans to introduce a deposit return scheme in England for plastic bottles. Tesco have announced plans to stop labelling over 70 fresh fruit and vegetable products with “best before” dates in a bid to reduce food waste. Tesco is also planning to close their standalone clothing and general merchandise website, Tesco Direct. (Source: Retail Gazette)

• Just two years on from its purchase of Homebase for £340m, Wesfarmers has sold the DIY chain for just £1 to restructuring specialist Hilco. The 24 stores that had been converted by Wesfarmers to the Bunnings brand will revert back to the Homebase name. (Source: BBC)

Bathstore have announced that their Chief Executive Director, Gary Favell, has stepped down from his position with immediate effect. Favell will be succeeded by Wolseley UK & ROI branch director Ian Herrett, who has previously held roles at B&Q and M&S. (Source: Retail Week)

DFS Furniture have appointed Tim Stacey to succeed Ian Filby as Chief Executive Officer with effect from 01 November 2018. After eight years with DFS, Filby will be resigning as both chief executive and a member of the board of directors on 31 October 2018. (Source: Company Press Release)

Heal’s, the furniture retailer, have plans to open a new store in the Westfield shopping centre in London’s White City at the end of May 2018. Ikea have scrapped plans to build their second largest UK store in North West England over fears of rising costs on the high street.
