Trippin' Tambourine

Remember last month when I began talking about painting my old tambourine? I resisted the temptation to paint it green. True to form, I had to paint a design on it using a pattern of leaves and berries My first step was to sand the area I intended to paint and give the area several coats of gesso.

Next I painted the pattern with acrylics. One difficulty I had was that the sides of the Tambourine are not smooth. It may have been a good idea to sand the whole tambourine before I began painting.

I modified my signature symbol to fit the hippie theme I wanted to use. Of course I love the peace sign, it's a symbol of those times, so it had to be in there somewhere.

Here's a shot of the finished Signature. I decided to make it gold. There's a reason if you know the lyrics of the song I used.

This is the finished side. I didn't change much from the preliminary pic. Just sharpened it up a bit and added a Coat of gloss for protection/looks. Hope you like it.
