Two Libyans killed after clashes at Ras Jedir border crossing with Tunisia

The Ras Jadir crossing is considered one of the most sensitive points on the security level and is one of the largest land gates between Tunisia and Libya.


Two Libyans were killed in an armed attack by a battalion of the Libyan National Reconciliation Council's presidential council on Friday at the Ras Jedir border crossing between Tunisia and Libya in an attempt to control it.

The Tunisian activist Mustafa Abdel Kabir, said that "two dead and a number of wounded were killed today after armed confrontations in the vicinity of Ras Jedir crossing between the battalion and some of the security personnel at the crossing."

"It has been agreed for some time that the Ras Jedir crossing was handed over peacefully to the presidential council of the government of Fayez al-Sarraj," said Abdul Kabir. "When Osama al-Juwaili, the commander of security forces in the western side, went to the crossing,

For his part, a source at the Tunisian customs at the Ras Jedir crossing, who asked not to be named, said that "the Joili battalion attacked the Ras Jedir crossing at dawn today using heavy weapons and directly engaged for more than an hour with the security men at the crossing."

He added that "all the Libyan security guards fled to the Tunisian side of the crossing while the work was stopped from both directions, completely, before resuming in a circumstantial way to allow the Tunisians to pass."

The source explained that "the situation is currently stable and that the Libyan side of the crossing is free of security personnel, while the other armed battalion is based near the crossing."

The Ras Jadir crossing is considered one of the most sensitive points on the security level, one of the largest land gates between Tunisia and Libya.

The crossing has been subjected to more than one attack in recent years by armed Libyan battalions for control.
