France urged Russia to calm militants in Donetsk and Lugansk regions

France urged Russia to use influence on the militants it controls to ensure a complete ceasefire in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. This statement was made on December 15 at a briefing in the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of France, the French Embassy in Ukraine reports.

"France condemns the bombardments that threatened five observers of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine at Popasnaya (Lugansk region) on the night of December 13. The parties are obliged to ensure the safety of observers in accordance with the mandate of the Mission, approved by 57 OSCE countries," the statement said.

France grew up worrying about the resumption of the intensity of fighting in eastern Ukraine, which led to the death of 17 people since early December, and 37 injured.

"France, together with Germany, is fully mobilized in the" Norman format, "working to resolve the conflict, and we call on all parties to return to the ceasefire regime for the Christmas holidays during the next meeting of the Tripartite Contact Group, which will be held in Minsk on December 20. We, in particular , we urge Russia to use its influence ... to ensure full compliance with the ceasefire, "the embassy noted.

Let us recall that the deputy head of the OSCE special monitoring mission in the Donbass (OSCE CMM), Alexander Hug, called for the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the establishment of peace in the region.

"The parties have not come nearer to stopping the violence, they have moved far further than ever, we see that the violence is increasing, and Minsk agreements are being kept less." Unfortunately, after 3.5 years we have moved away from resolving the conflict more than someday, "Hug said.

As reported, Hug said that now there is not a single "security zone" in the Donbass.

"The so-called" security zones "are currently the most dangerous sites in the Donbas," the observer emphasized.

Earlier the handshake of an OSCE officer with a militant in the Donbass region caused a serious scandal and a sharp reaction in Kiev, and observers insist that the incident is not important against the backdrop of the OSCE's work on the return of the bodies of the deceased Ukrainian military.
