Day One

Today… is the first day of the rest of my life.  I want to write.  I need to write.  The stories of this life, of the lives of those I love, are passing with incredible speed.  The memories fade without reminder!  Today, there exists no sanctity for history… there are no photo albums, no family video collections of picnics and road trips that spark reunions to enjoy again.  The world lives for today, repeating the blunders of even the recent past.  Technology reigns.  We live for today, we live for tomorrow, there is no time to reminisce until, I am sure, the hindsight of what is truly important crashes like mountains upon us when the reel of our life runs red.

I will bear witness for my children, and for their children’s grandchildren, in spite of every distraction and every odd against me… despite all obstacles.

To begin, I endeavor to fill every void, every crevice in time that I can recall, with the fragments of memories that I still have.  The resulting story will not be told chronologically.  I may bend the recollections to my own filters, whether dark and morbid or bursting in a kaleidoscope of Willy Wonka technicolor; the stories are mine to tell.  Here’s to my very own Neverending Story!
