Maegan Hall, the sole female officer terminated amid the La Vergne Police Department’s sex scandal, has finalized a $500,000 settlement with the city after withdrawing her federal civil rights lawsuit against both the department and her former colleagues.
Hall, along with four other officers, faced dismissal in January 2023 following an inquiry revealing their engagement in on-duty sexual activity and subsequent dishonesty about it.
In her lawsuit filed in February 2023, Hall claimed she was subjected to sexual harassment and grooming for exploitation. The case highlighted the national attention garnered by the sex scandal, leading to public scrutiny and impeding her job prospects, as per Hall’s attorneys.
The lawsuit targeted the City of La Vergne, ex-Police Chief Burrel “Chip” Davis, and Sergeants Lewis Powell and Henry “Ty” McGowan, alleging abuse of authority and exploitation of Hall.

Hall described her time at the La Vergne Police Department as fraught with sexual advances and explicit conduct, with Powell reportedly pressuring her for sexual favors until she relented.
Davis, dismissed following an external investigation into the scandal, was accused of soliciting pornographic material of Hall and encouraging exploitative behaviors by McGowan. Much of the lawsuit’s claims were corroborated by the independent investigation.
The settlement, totaling $500,000, will be covered by the city’s insurance provider, ensuring no direct impact on taxpayer funds. The agreement, reached through negotiations between the city’s representatives and Hall’s legal team, encompasses court expenses, attorney fees, and associated costs. The city maintains a denial of liability in the matter.
The La Vergne Board of Mayor and Aldermen endorsed the settlement, affirming the city’s commitment to resolve the matter without admission of fault.
