Jet fuel is made from kerosene, then why is it more expensive than petrol? – The Daily Connection

Have you ever lit a lantern as a child? Yes, lantern means lamp, let us tell you whether food is cooked on Kerosene stove in your house too? Whatever be your answer, let us tell you that kerosene oil is used to light lanterns and stoves. People also use kerosene to light wood fire. Kerosene oil is not only used for these household purposes but also for flying aeroplanes. Kerosene is used to make the oil that aeroplanes run on.

Whether an airplane is big or small, it needs Fuel to fly. This fuel is called Aviation Fuel. Most airplane companies prefer kerosene. From this, fuel capable of flying planes is prepared. Here you can see that airplane What kind of fuel is used?

Generally two types of fuel are used in airplanes.

1.Jet Fuel or Kerosene

Jet fuel is prepared by refining kerosene. Jet Fuel is used in airplanes with turbine engines, turboprops and jet engines. Two variants of jet fuel are available – Jet A and Jet A1.

Jet fuel comes with lower freezing point. It is less flammable than petrol. Apart from this, some additives like anti-static chemicals, de-icing agents, anti-corrosive agents, anti-bacterial agents are also added to it so that the jet fuel can work safely in different weather and atmosphere during flight.

2.AVGAS

It is also known as aviation gasoline. It is used for piston-engined jet airplanes. Generally flight training jets, flying clubs and private pilots fly such planes. Like jet fuel, they are not used on a large scale.

Why is jet fuel costlier than petrol?

In India, airplane fuel is called Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). It is not that ATF has always been costlier than petrol. In the last few years, the price of petrol has been higher than jet fuel. Due to increase in the price of crude oil at the global level, the price of jet fuel is also increasing.

The refining process of petrol and jet fuel does not make much difference in the price. Refining jet fuel is not that difficult anyway because it is prepared from kerosene i.e. kerosene oil.

According to Indian Oil, from October 1, the price of ATF in Delhi is Rs 118.19 per liter. At the same time, the price of petrol in Delhi is Rs 96.72 per liter. There is a difference between the prices of both the fuels on the basis of taxes etc. The price of subsidized kerosene oil in Mumbai is Rs 77.61 per liter.
