‘Artemis Fowl,’ ‘Crater,’ and ‘Cheaper By The Dozen’ Among Titles Previously Streaming On Disney+ That Are Now Only Available On Paid VOD

Some magical mischief of Disney has just been exposed.

According to The Wrap, various films and TV series seasons that originally existed on Disney+ but were removed from the streamer have been popping up on premium VOD (or PVOD) platforms, such as Amazon, Apple, and Vudu.

One prime example of this mysterious move was when Crater, an exclusive Disney+ sci-fi film featuring Mckenna Grace and rapper Kid Cudi, was removed from the platform less than two months after its release.

The film is currently available to rent for $3.99 on Prime Video, Google Play, and Vudu. Each of the three platforms is also offering viewers the chance to buy he films for $19.99.

In June, The Hollywood Reporter disclosed that Disney took down over 70 projects across Disney+ and Hulu, resulting in a $1.5 billion write-down.

Per The Wrap, alongside Crater, the following films have been removed from Disney+ and are only available to rent for approximately $4 or to buy for about $20 on PVOD platforms: Artemis Fowl, Better Nate Than Ever, Cheaper by the Dozen (2022), Flora & Ulysses, Hollywood Stargirl, Stargirl, The One and Only Ivan, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made, and Wolfgang.

This news also comes in the wake of another notable Disney+ exit. According to Deadline, The Spiderwick Chronicles, the TV adaptation based on Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi’s literary series that also inspired the 2008 film of the same name, is now heading to Roku following an announcement from Disney+ in August that they would not be proceeding with the series due to cutting programming costs.

Decider reached out to Disney+ for comment, but did not hear back in time of publication.
