Charlotte Sena: Police release picture of suspect after missing nine-year-old found | US News

Man Arrested in Charlotte Sena Disappearance Case:

In a significant development, the police have unveiled an image of the individual taken into custody in connection with the disappearance of nine-year-old Charlotte Sena. The young girl was found safe and in good health on Monday, concluding an extensive two-day search that followed her vanishing during a family camping expedition in New York state.

The suspect, identified as Craig Nelson Ross Jr, aged 46, remains in custody. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul conveyed this information during a press conference on Monday night. Ross faced an arraignment in a Milton, New York town court on a first-degree kidnapping charge, as announced by the state police on Tuesday.

A Fingerprint Clue:

Governor Hochul revealed that authorities pinpointed a fingerprint on a ransom note that had been delivered to the family while the residence was under police surveillance. After the identification of the fingerprint on the note, which was linked to data from a 1999 drink-driving incident, law enforcement swiftly descended upon the suspect’s dwelling—a camper van located behind his mother’s residence. Inside, Charlotte was discovered in a cupboard by officers.

According to Ms. Hochul, Charlotte knew she was being rescued and felt secure in the hands of the officers.

A Happy Reunion:

Charlotte’s well-being was subsequently assessed at a hospital, and thankfully, she appeared physically unharmed. She has since been reunited with her family.

Disappearance Timeline:

The young girl disappeared while riding her bike on a Saturday evening in Moreau Lake State Park, approximately 35 miles north of Albany. Her absence was noted when she didn’t return within 15 minutes, prompting her parents and nearby campers to initiate a search.

Massive Search Operation:

The search for Charlotte mobilized more than 100 personnel and 75 law enforcement officials. It also involved the deployment of dogs, two drones, boats, and six underwater rescue teams, as disclosed by Ms. Hochul earlier. At one point, over 400 search and rescue personnel scoured a 46-mile area in the quest to find the missing nine-year-old.

Park Closure and FBI Assistance:

To facilitate the search efforts, the park was temporarily closed, with authorities urging the public to stay away. Notably, the FBI also joined forces with local law enforcement in their pursuit of answers.

A Family’s Desperate Search:

Speaking to NBC News, Charlotte’s aunt, Jene Sena, described the agonizingly brief time span in which her niece vanished. “She disappeared almost into thin air. I mean it was minutes, minutes, between when she was last seen and when she wasn’t there anymore,” Sena said.
