Ed Sheeran’s Vegas Show Cancelled: Safety Comes First

Ed Sheeran, the music sensation behind “The Shape Of You,” has expressed his disappointment over the last-minute cancellation of his recent gig in the US. He’s “gutted,” but he made it clear that he won’t compromise the safety of his fans for anything.

The unexpected turn of events unfolded just before his performance at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas was set to begin on Saturday.

At around 2 am UK time (6 pm local time), Ed Sheeran initially blamed “challenges encountered during the load-in” in an Instagram post.

However, in a later update shared with his 45 million Instagram followers on Sunday, Sheeran referred to an article that shed more light on the situation. According to this article, the venue had a “flooring problem.” It turns out that when the crew was setting up equipment before the soundcheck, the rubber tiling became unstuck, causing two tall towers to shift overnight by about a foot each.

Despite their best efforts to tear down, rebuild, and reinforce the towers, they continued to shift, ultimately leading to the decision to cancel the show.

The article also praised Ed Sheeran and his team for their unwavering dedication, saying they “battled for 24 hours to salvage the show.”

Ed Sheeran, in his own words, explained the cancellation: “It was a safety issue, and we really tried to do the best we could to make the show happen but I’m not gonna risk the safety of my fans for anything.”

He expressed his deep regret, taking full responsibility for those affected by the cancellation, and apologized for the abrupt notice. He added, “We really thought the show was going to happen up until the very last moment but it just couldn’t for safety reasons.”

The stadium in Nevada, home to the NFL team Las Vegas Raiders, can seat 65,000 people. Ed Sheeran was scheduled to perform alongside support acts, US rapper Russ, and English singer-songwriter Maisie Peters.

The show has now been rescheduled for Saturday, October 28th. This isn’t the first time Ed Sheeran has faced gig cancellations. In the past, he had to cancel shows in Hong Kong due to severe weather conditions in 2019 and in St. Louis, Missouri, amid protests in 2017. Safety, it seems, always comes first for this talented artist.
