The primary suspect in the case involving the rape of a 12-year-old girl, whose harrowing ordeal was captured on CCTV as she desperately sought help from door to door, has been aaarested in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. Attempting to evade arrest, the suspect, identified as an autorickshaw driver, was pursued by a police team and successfully captured.

The police had escorted the accused to the location where the alleged assault took place to collect evidence. Upon arrival at the scene, the accused seized an opportunity to flee from the police. A chase ensued, culminating in his apprehension.

Inspector Ajay Kumar informed reporters, “Today, we reached the spot to recover the clothes worn by the girl. Sensing an opportunity, Bharat Soni tried to escape. Police personnel chased and caught him. During this, he fell on a cemented road, injuring his arms and legs.”

Sachin Sharma, the Superintendent of Police, revealed that technical surveillance and Cctv Footage analysis had been employed to locate the main suspect. “The accused is from Ujjain. He saw the girl walking alone. She is yet to give a statement, is recovering in a hospital,” Mr. Sharma stated.

The distressing footage from Ujjain, depicting the 15-year-old girl in a semi-naked, bleeding state following the assault, as she sought assistance from door to door, has ignited outrage nationwide.

Authorities had interrogated an autorickshaw driver after reviewing CCTV footage of the area where the teenager had been seen seeking help. The police had discovered bloodstains in the three-wheeler. Today, the focus zeroed in on the autorickshaw driver.

Although the survivor underwent surgery and is in stable condition, she has not provided a statement due to her incoherence. She cannot specify her place of origin, her parents, or any other relatives, according to a police officer. Nevertheless, a complaint had previously been filed in another district of Madhya Pradesh when a girl went missing, and an investigation is ongoing to determine if she is the same individual. She has a grandmother and a brother.

CCTV footage revealed a man shooing away the young girl, who was partially unclothed following the assault. She eventually found assistance at an ashram, where a priest offered her his clothing and contacted the police. Twenty minutes later, law enforcement arrived, and she was swiftly transported to a hospital.

It’s worth noting that Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have reported the highest number of cases of women and girls going missing between 2019 and 2021. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh reported the most incidents of rape in the country in 2021, with 6,462 cases according to National Crime Records Bureau data, more than 50% of which were crimes against minors, equating to 18 rapes daily.
