The last day of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

             Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Who is listening to me today?I am being told to retire from politics and go to the Himalayas and live the life of a sadhu.Everyone wants to wear my pictures and statues as necklaces, but no one is willing to listen to my advice.I don't want future generations to curse me by saying that I was part of the process of dismemberment of India. Thef reedom we are getting in case of partition of India is wooden sweet . If you eat, you will die of stomach pain, if you don't eat, you will die of hunger.Friends, these are the words of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, known as Bapu, Mahatma Gandhi or Gandhiji in India. But Gandhi who was talking about keeping India united was attacked.People would throw stones at them, filth and broken glass in their path.Mahatma Gandhi was so persecuted that he did not even participate in India's independence celebrations.Rather, he announced that now he will stay in Pakistan. Why was that?I am Ali Raza we will show you all this, My Curious Fellows Mahatma Gandhi's political downfall in the latter part of his lifewas due to his four wishes.Four such wishes for which he had struggled throughout his life. The first wish was that India should not be divided i.e. Pakistan and India should not become separate countries.Gandhi used to say that the partition of India could only happen over his dead body. His second wish was that the British leave India peacefully. There should be no riots, riots and riots. This was because Mahatma Gandhi believed in non-violence and was against any kind of fighting or rioting. His third wish was that a government should be established in India, which would only serve the people instead of its own egos. Let the Ministers of this Government lead a simple life like him, but live in servant's quarters.Instead of big vehicles, travel in thangs.Mahatma Gandhi's fourth wish was that even if the partition of India should come,India and Pakistan should remain bound in love. There should be no enmity and war between them.So these friends were his four wishes. But what happened was that immediately after independence, all these wishes of theirs started to become a pile of dust in front of their eyes.India changed so overnight that Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy suddenly became outdated. This change started with Direct Action Day.August 16, 1946, Ninety-six was the day when Indian Muslims held Direct Action Day on the appeal of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the leader of the Muslim League. This means that on that day Muslims across India took to the streets and started a movement for the establishment of Pakistan. But this day of movement turned into bloody riots. Most of the riots took place in Kolkata, the capital of Bengal.Atleast four hundred people were killed and thousands were injured in the riots that continued for several days.HPakhtun nationalist leader Bacha Khan also accompanied him in this visit.Wherever Mahatma Gandhi went, he heard similar stories of terrible destruction and suffering. He comforted the people and restrained them from retaliating. But you know when the feelings of hatred are kindled, the peace talker seems like an old man. The same thing started to happen with Gandhiji and the hatred of the extremists turned towards him.Even the attacks on them started now.A mob attacked his train at Aligarh railway station. The attackers pelted stones on the bogie in which Mahatma Gandhi was travelling. However, they were safe from these attacks. The assailants started throwing dirt and sharp pieces of glass in their path to hurt them.In response, Karamchand Gandhi took off his shoes and started traveling barefoot. By hurting himself, he wanted to tell people that the stones in my path are not obstacles in my journey.Friends, despite all the efforts of Mahatma Gandhi, the Hindu-Muslim riots did not stop, they continued to grow and spread. In the early months of Nineteen Forty Seven, it became clear that Hindus and Muslims could no longer live together in the subcontinent. In these circumstances, the Congress party took an important decision. He accepted the demand of Pakistan. There wasa logic behind the recognition of the demand of partition of India ie creation of Pakistan by the Congress party.Their logic was that if Pakistan was not created, violence would increase in India, making India insecure. Therefore, support the establishment of Pakistan and separate yourself from the Muslim majority areas. Here, friends, let me also tell you that as a result of the elections of 1946,a joint interim government of the Congress and the Muslim League was formed at the center. ThePrime Minister of this government was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Finance Minister Liaquat Ali Khan.Later, the people involved in this government became the initial political rulers of Pakistan and India. You know that Liaquat Ali Khan became the Prime Minister of Pakistanand in India you know that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.Well, friends, Viceroy Lord Mountbatten negotiated with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Pandit Nehru and settled the details of partitionand on June 3, nineteen forty-seven, nineteen forty-seven, the partition plan was formally announced.indus and Muslims massacred each other, women were abducted and houses were burnt. From Calcutta these riots started spreading to other parts of India.Mumbai, Delhi and Bihar were also engulfed in riots. The situation was that Hindus were being attacked in East Bengal, where the Muslim population was more, and in Bihar, where the Hindu population was more, the Muslims were being attacked by mobs.In these circumstances, Mahatma Gandhi mobilized to stop the bloodshed. He decided to visit the riot affected Hindu areas in Bengal. Then he also raised his voice for the Muslims of Bihar and wrote in a letter that Bihar, the land of my dreams, has put itself on the wrong path.If one group is taking a wrong step, it does not mean that the other group will do the same in return. He traveled around Noakhali and its surrounding areas teaching non-violence and teaching non-violence.This trip was very dangerous guys because there were no guards with them.He was traveling with only his secretary and a Bengali translator. Inorder to end the hatred between Muslims and Hindus,Gandhi adopted this method of going to riot affected areas during the day and resting in a Muslim village at night. Thanks to theefforts of Mahatma Gandhi, the peace of Dosto Bengal was restored to a large extent.Subsequently, in March 1947, Mahatma Gandhi visited the riot-affected areas in Bihar as well. Then eleven days later, on the fourteenth of June, an important Congress meeting was held in Delhi,in which Pandit Nehru and the Congress leaders raised their hands and voted in favor of partition. But here was a problem. The problem was that Congress was willing to partition, but Congress patriarch Karamchand Gandhi was not.On the idea of partition of India by the Congress leaders, Mahatma Gandhi had said that Nehru and Sardar Patel are understanding that my thinking ability has decreased with age.On another occasion, he also said in frustration that he doesn't listen to me at all.Am I really old? Do things really not make sense to me?Friends, knowing full well that there was no chance of his word being listened to,he continued to oppose partition. He was telling people that I don't want future generations to curse me and say that I was involved in the partition of India. All these controversial words of Mahatma Gandhi were not understood by anyone in India, moving towards partition. Didn't like it. Then Congress people, if they met their mentor, would have advised him to become a sadhu and go to the Himalayan mountains. The purpose of this advice was to make Mahatma Gandhi painfully aware that there was no place for his ideals in independent India. Then as the violence escalated, the distance between Mahatma Gandhi and the Congress also widened.Mahatma Gandhi began to feel that Pandit Nehru's government was not doing much to improve the lives of the Indian people and prevent riots. He said, I consider Jawaharlal Nehru as an uncrowned king.Yet India is a poor nation, they should understand that it is so poor that its elected leaders should walk instead of driving.Instead of living in palaces, one should live in servant quarters, a palace dweller cannot run the government. He had asked Pandit Nehru and Sardar Patel several times to dedicate the palatial houses and magnificent office buildings of Delhi to make hostels for the homeless refugees.or take up residence in the huts of farmers. He was also confused about why corruption is so common in government offices when we have become independent. In these circumstances, Dosto Gandhiji was also given a secret advice by some of his old friends to start a similar movement to topple Pandit Nehru's government as he had done against the British.Mahatma Gandhi refused to accept this advice. He said that he will not launch any movement against this institution i.e. Congress and its government.Opposition to the My Curious Fellows Party and criticism of the Congress government were the issues that deprived Karamchand Gandhi of a potentially most important post. Then came the moment when extremist Hindus attacked Mahatma Gandhi's house. What event was this?Friends, you know that the last Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten, was decided by Pandit Nehru to be the first Governor General of India.According to historian Stanley Wolpert, Mahatma Gandhi wanted him to replace Lord Mountbatten as the first Governor General of India. However, Pandit Nehru was not in favor of giving this post to Gandhiji.According to Wolpert, Mountbatten felt that Mahatma Gandhi was rightfully entitled to the position. However, since Pandit Nehru was seeking help from Mountbatten in many strategic matters,he rejected the idea of making Mahatma Gandhi the Governor General. As soon as Lord Mountbatten became Governor General, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's fears began to prove correct.Lord Mountbatten had started playing a role to make Kashmir, the most important region in the eyes of Pakistan, a part of India. You know that Jammu and Kashmir was a princely state of the subcontinent.Pandit Nehru wanted to make it a part of India, partly becausehis own ancestors had migrated from Kashmir. He started working on the plan to make Kashmir a part of India through Lord Mountbatten.Lord Mountbatten chose Mahatma Gandhi to work on this project. He asked Mahatma Gandhi to go to Kashmir and talk to Dogra Maharaja Hari Singh and get Kashmir included in India.Mahatma Gandhi was in favor of going to Kashmir but at the same time he made a statement which was not liked by Mountbatten and the Congress leaders.Gandhiji said that I am not going to ask the Maharaja to join either India or Pakistan. We should ask the people of Kashmir whether they want to join Pakistan or what they want with India.Mahatma Gandhi reached Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir, on August 1, 1947, Nineteen Forty Seven. Some Muslims of Kashmir were considering Mahatma Gandhi's visit as an attempt to join India. That is why there were protests against him at many places in Kashmir. In one such incident it happened that Gandhiji was going somewhere in a car. Some protesters ran behind Gandhiji's car shouting pro-Pakistan slogans. On this, Karamchand Gandhi stopped the car and asked the people why they were protesting. One of the protesters said we want Pakistan.Gandhiji said that Pakistan has been created. To this the same person replied that we want Pakistan here i.e. in Kashmir.Mahatma Gandhi did not reply to this.Their driver increased the speed of the car and tried to push the car forward while honking the horn.On this behavior of the driver, one of the protesters threw a stone and broke the glass of the car. However, Karamchand Gandhi remained unhurt in this accident andmet with Maharaja Hari Singh and other Kashmiri leaders. On August 4th, he came to Rawalpindi via Jammu. As are result of this visit of Mahatma Gandhi, there was no announcement of the accession of Kashmir, but some important events took place immediately after it.One is that the Prime Minister of Kashmir, Ram Chandra, who was not liked by the Kashmiri Muslims, was removed from office. The following month, Kashmiri leader Sheikh Abdullah who was imprisoned by the Maharaja was released. After completing his visit to Kashmir, Mahatma Gandhi reached Lahore by train on August 6, 1947.He made another announcement at Lahore Railway Station. He said that the rest of my life will be spent in Pakistan.Perhapsin East Bengal or in West Punjab or in the border province, which is now called Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, Mahatma Gandhi also said during this announcement that at present I cannot stop here.I am going to Bengal right now because I promised the people there that I will be with them on August 15 before Independence Day.He also asked the Hindus not to leave Lahore. He said that if the rights of minorities are ensured in Pakistan, the minorities should salute the Pakistani flag. But if minorities don't get rights, at least I won't salute the Pakistani flag After this address at the Lahore Railway Station, Mahatma Gandhi went first to Patna and then to Kolkata Now on August 15th, Independence Day was very close.Karamchand Gandhi appealed to all his followers in India to fast on August 15th.He said we have no grain, no clothes, no ghee and oil.So why should we celebrate independence? Therefore, instead of celebrating independence on the fifteenth of August, one should fast, run the wheel and pray.Mahatma Gandhi arrived in Calcutta on August 10.Here he met the leader of Muslim League and former Prime Minister of Bengal Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy.  Atthat time, Bengal was partitioned under the Partition Plan.East Bengal became East Pakistan while West Bengal, with Calcutta as its capital, became part of India.Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy was still in Calcutta and had not moved to East Pakistan.Mahatma Gandhi reached Calcutta and met Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy.  Thetwo decided that they would work together to stop the riots and restore peace. They also decided that they would live in the same building so that Hindus and Muslims could also learn brotherhood. So now Karamchand Gandhi and Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy moved to Hydari Manzil.Yeh Dostou was an empty mansion owned by some Muslims.H owever, its owners abandoned it after the riots and moved elsewhere.Well, today let me tell you that this building has been converted into a museum and is called Gandhi Bhavan.Dear friends, Mahatma Gandhi and Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy started living in this building on the Hydari Manzil.Their living in the same building became a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. Thetwo leaders began communicating with powerful people in the city and enlisted them in efforts to restore peace. Not only this, but many Hindus and Muslims who had become homeless due to riotsalso moved into this house and started living in its yard by pitching tents etc.But the Hindu extremists were not happy with the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi, they thought that Gandhiji had come here only to save the Muslims because Kolkata had already joined India. So on the same night, hundreds of extremist Hindus gathered outside Hydari Manzil. They shouted slogans and asked Mahatma Gandhi why have you come here? Why don't you go to those places where Hindus are being expelled from where they are being oppressed? To this Mahatma Gandhi replied, I have not come here only for the Muslimsbut also to help the Hindus. On this, the Hindu extremists said, "Go away from here." We don't need you.Mahatma Gandhi replied, "You can stop me from my work, you can kill me, but you cannot call me an enemy of Hindus.I do not accept this accusation."However, the demonstration ended after some time, friends, and the Hindu extremists dispersed peacefully. The next day these same Hindus gathered again and debated with Mahatma Gandhi again. It was the night of the fourteenth of August.Gandhiji answered their objections and finally succeeded in winning the hearts of these people. The extremist Hindus who came to fight him started chanting his guns. One of them shouted, "This man is a magician."The person who was saying this was so impressed with Mahatma Gandhi that he became the guard of Hydari Manzil. Thus friends Gandhiji and Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy started efforts to make Calcutta peaceful by making Hyderi Manzil the center.Due to his efforts, an atmosphere of peace was really created in Calcutta, which seemed that there would be no more riots here.Lord Mountbatten, the first Governor General of India, was also appreciative of Mahatma Gandhi's efforts. He said that we have deployed 55,000 troops in Punjab, but riots are happening there. But in Bengal our army consists of only one jawan and there are no riots. He said that I salute this one-man army and its second-in  command Mr.Suhrawardy.Meanwhile, while Mahatma Gandhi was still in Kolkata, the historic moments of 14th and 15th August came when Pakistan and India became independent.Independence Day was celebrated in both the countriesand we have shown its story in the first video of this series. But friends Gandhiji did not celebrate in the joy of independence. On the night between 14th and 15th August, when Delhi was celebrating and Nehru was giving his speech,Gandhiji was sleeping soundly in the Hydari Manzil of Calcutta, apparently indifferent to it all. However, Mahatma Gandhi was remembered in Delhi on the occasion of Independence. When independence was announced at twelve o'clock in the night and with the sound of conches in the Indian Parliament, slogans of Gandhi ki Jai Ho, Gandhi ki Jai Ho, were also raised. After the independence ceremony was over in Parliament, Pandit Nehru arrived to formally invite Lord Mountbatten to become the Governor General of India. On this occasion too, Mountbatten also remembered Mahatma Gandhi. He said that at this historical moment we should not forget the services of Gandhiji for India. He said that Gandhiji ensured freedom of India through non-violence.We are missing them today because they are not here. So, friends, Mahatma Gandhi was being remembered in Delhi, but on the other hand,Mahatma Gandhi's life was in grave danger in Calcutta. And they were attacked by a group at night. What happened was that on the night of August 31, Hindu youths suddenly attacked Hydari Manzil and broke the windows of the house by throwing bricks. These people came to avenge the killing of a Hindu and were blaming it on the Muslims. They believed that Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy and other Muslims were still present in the courtyard of the same building.Mahatma Gandhi's eyes were opened by this commotion. He came out and started trying to explain the Hindu youth. But all of them had revenge on their heads. They did not even listen to Mahatma Gandhi and continued the uproar. But before these people could do any harm to the refugees in the courtyard of the building, aheavy contingent of police arrived there.Seeing the police coming, this group of angry youth ran away and the matter was dismissed. This one issue was avoided, but Mahatma Gandhi was so shocked by this situation that he announced a hunger strike the next day.He said that he will not take anything except water. Thatmeans they will not eat.He said that if I can't stop the riots, if I can't stop the riots, then what will I do while I'm alive?Although before that he used to talk about living for one hundred and twenty five year sto see his ideas implemented in his life, but now seeing the riots, he started talking about hating life. So, friends, the news of Mohandas Gandhi's death spread like wildfireand big leaders came running to end his death.Among them was Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Congress leader Surat Bose and Bengal Hindu Mahasabha leader 'Debindranath Mukherjee'.Apart from this, many other politicians came.Gandhi was bedridden due to hunger. These politicians stood beside him and begged him to end his hunger strike. He assured Gandhiji that he would keep the people of India non-violent at all costs. No commotion will be allowed. As are result of the efforts of these people,Gandhi ended his hunger strike by drinking a glass of orange juice on September 4 at 9:30 PM, that is, four days later. Atthat time many people were gathered in his room.Mahatma Gandhi told him that I am breaking this vow so that I can do something for the people of Punjab.Friends, he said this because similar to Bengal but even more terrible bloody riots broke out in Punjab. Now Gandhi wanted to go to Punjab and try to stop the riots. He told the people in his room that I am breaking your assurance.I hope the Hindu Muslims living here will not force me to do this again. He asked the youth of Calcutta to try to establish peace without taking up arms.So a peace army or Shanti Sena Dal was established there.Mahatma Gandhi's victory and establishment of peace in Bengal was his great achievement. They felt that they would soon bring the whole of India out of the quagmire of riots. So with a new mission and renewed enthusiasm, he boarded a train from Calcutta on September 7 and left for Delhi. They intended to go from Delhi to Punjab and try to stop the riots. But friends, they could never reach Punjab. By this time several powerful factions in India had turned against him. At first, only the Congress leaders were angry with them, but now the armed groups of the Hindutva, armed groups have also raised their heads. These people had a completely different view of India, of India's future, apart from secularism. An ideology in which Mahatma Gandhi did not fit at all.He was by no means ready to accept Mahatma Gandhi's Hindu-Muslim brotherhood. He was convinced of racial and religious superiority and the biggest obstacle in his way was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Some of these youths came up with a plan to remove the biggest obstacle in their path, what the Indians called Bapu.Who were the young people who made this plan? Why did they plan to kill their leader? Was Gandhiji killed for supporting Kashmiris and Pakistan? What are the secrets of Mahatma Gandhi's murder that have not been revealed till date?
