1. Israel-GAZA AID BREAKTHROUGH |
Israel said it would allow Egypt to deliver some water, food and medical supplies into Gaza, where all are in short supply. The deliveries only apply to southern Gaza — Israel ordered residents in the north to evacuate ahead of a potential invasion — and does not include fuel for generators to power hospitals. Meanwhile, Israel and Hamas continue to blame each other as the source of an explosion that killed hundreds of Palestinians at a Gaza hospital Tuesday. |

President Joe Biden departed Israel after a day trip where he underscored U.S. support for its war with Hamas and got Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to allow some humanitarian aid into Gaza. Biden will discuss other U.S. support for Israel and for Ukraine's war with Russia in an Oval Office address tonight. |

Rep. Jim Jordan had an even weaker showing in his second attempt to become House speaker: He received two fewer votes than the first round. It's not clear whether the uber-conservative Judiciary Committee chair will have any path to the speakership when the chamber convenes at noon today. Some Democrats and Republicans have proposed giving the temporary speaker, Rep. Patrick McHenry, more power to run the House until a permanent leader is chosen. |

4. HOLLOWAY MURDER CONFESSION |
Joran Van Der Sloot, the Dutch citizen long suspected of killing Natalee Holloway in 2005, finally admitted it. Van der Sloot, now 36, can't be tried for Holloway's murder in Aruba because its statute of limitations has passed, but his guilty plea for trying to extort Holloway's mother in 2010 gives him a 20-year sentence in the U.S. He'll serve it concurrently with a 28-year sentence in Peru for killing a woman there in 2010. |

5. LESS MISERABLE AIRPLANE BOARDING |
Starting Oct. 26, United Airlines will start boarding window-seat passengers first in the economy section of domestic flights and some international flights. United said that will speed up boarding times, but we think the real metric for success will be how many awkward situations it prevents between window passengers and those who just got settled into their middle and aisle seats. This is right up there with the invention of the wheel. |

Fugees rapper Pras Michél, who was convicted in April of charges related to several political conspiracies, said his first lawyer was so unprepared and incompetent that he should get a new trial. Michél's new lawyers said attorney David Kenner used an AI program to help write closing arguments that left out key points and also closed by misattributing a well-known Diddy song to the Fugees. |

Led by hoops star A'ja Wilson's 24 points and 16 rebounds, the Las Vegas Aces defeated the New York Liberty in four games to pull off back-to-back titles, which hasn't happened in the WNBA for more than two decades. Can the Aces make it three of a kind next year? (We'd make a better joke, but we don't know card references unless you count Go Fish.) |

9. BALLET VIP MISTY COPELAND |
The dancer's new short film, which she stars in and produced, tells the story of community, displacement and resistance without using a single word. Using "the power of movement" to elevate people and issues that have been ignored "is where I think ballet should be headed," she said. |
