So far, two men have said they will run to replace McCarthy when the House is back in session next week: House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, the second-ranking Republican, and conservative firebrand Jim Jordan. |

SPEAKER TRUMP? Meanwhile, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and others want to nominate Donald Trump — the speaker doesn't have to be a member of the House — but the former president said he's focused on running for his old job. |

The man who allegedly planned the 1996 shooting of Tupac Shakur made his first court appearance since he was charged last week with the rapper's murder. Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 60, admitted in a 2019 memoir to riding in the car where the fatal shots were fired; he said he passed a gun to his nephew in the back seat. In Nevada, where Shakur was killed, assisting a killing can carry a murder charge. |

New York City, the only large U.S. city required to temporarily house people with nowhere to go, asked a court to let it off the hook during states of emergency. More than 123,000 asylum-seekers have arrived since spring 2022, Mayor Eric Adams reported in a statement this week, saying, "New York City cannot continue to do this alone." As it doesn't say on the Statue of Liberty: "Do not give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses. They can sleep in the subway." |

For $5 (plus tip), drivers will drop off your ill-fitting shoes, wrong-color blazers and other regretted purchases to the post office or UPS or FedEx stores. DoorDash launched a $5 package pickup service in January. As huge return procrastinators, we mean it when we say, "Many happy returns." |
