Prior of the Nov. 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned political parties against disseminating false information.
This was revealed in a statement made in Abuja by Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, the INEC chairman's Chief Press Secretary. Oyekanmi was responding to the Social Democratic Party's (SDP) assertion that INEC was setting up Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices at the Government House in Lokoja with the goal to rig the state governorship election.
"The Social Democratic Party's (SDP) governorship campaign team's Director of New Media, ID Ijele, has called INEC's notice to a statement.
According to the statement, three INEC employees are currently allegedly maliciously configuring the BVAS machines at the Government House in Lokoja with the goal of rigging the governorship election on November 11 in a certain region of the state in favor of a particular candidate.
"The narrative is false. The three individuals indicated are not currently in Kogi or even connected to the BVAS machine configuration.
"Nicholas Ocholi is on duty at our Akure office for the state of Ondo.
Mohammed Adara retired last year and is no longer employed by the commission, Ibrahim Egbunu is caring for a very close family member who is in the hospital in Abuja, according to Oyekanmi.
He said that teams sent from the national headquarters in Abuja configured the BVAS simultaneously and only at the INEC offices in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.
The general populace is urged to ignore the story as untrue.
The commission also requests that political parties refrain from spreading false information of this kind, Oyekanmi stated.
