NDLEA's head gives his staff instructions on avoiding drug cartel temptation.

Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa (Ret.), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has urged the agency's 2,500 recently trained employees to resist sneaky temptations from drug lords and cartels.

Speaking Thursday in Katsina at the passing out parade of newly trained and prepared for deployment Narcotic Agents and Narcotic Assistants, Marwa emphasized to the new staff that they cannot afford to cut corners with their work because their actions will directly affect the safety and well-being of their families, communities, and the nation as a whole.

"I think you must have read and heard about the wonderful deeds of Ndlea officers before you reported to the Academy. You are welcome to make your share of the contribution today. The NDLEA has a long history of perseverance and dedication in the face of hardship. We are in a new era when we are determined to destroy Drug trafficking groups' hold on society and attack the fight against them with an unwavering resolve.

The NDLEA is using the most recent methods, tools, and intelligence in the ongoing fight against illegal substances. As a result, I can guarantee you that you're joining the Agency at a moment when the work is not only demanding but also interesting and rewarding, he added.

Marwa said the NDLEA launched an offensive action to put traffickers and barons on the defensive while also promoting a War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy campaign with long-term objectives of preventing drug abuse in society. Marwa was represented at the ceremony by his Special Adviser, Col. Yakubu Bako (Rtd).

"In the pursuit of the solemn duties of our mandate, it is vital for you to recognize and vehemently reject the insidious temptations of bribery and corruption that frequently accompany the drug trade," the Chairman stated in a statement issued by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi. Drug traffickers and their allies would try to undermine the honesty of anti-narcotic law enforcement officers by falling into the trap of financial gain to advance their evil goals. The officers and members of NDLEA must thus resist these temptations.

The fight against drug traffickers is a just cause that is rooted in the unshakeable desire to end the pain and destruction brought on by the illicit drug trade, we should always be reminded. You must aggressively reject these temptations as well as expose and disclose any efforts at compromise since corruption and bribery have no place in this mission. Remember at all times that the effects of descending into corruption have far-reaching effects on the society you have all vowed to defend.

"As a result, I beg you to resist these temptations, act honorably, and defend the fundamental principles of NDLEA. Our obligation is holy. For the victims of the drug scourge, our dedication is a ray of hope. Therefore, we ought to be unwavering in our commitment to the cause, Marwa argued.

The new employees were further reminded by him that "by rejecting corruption and upholding our commitment, we are not only defending the welfare of our nation but also preserving the moral fabric of our society and guaranteeing that justice prevails."

"We all owe a duty to this country to rid it of the drug menace and safeguard its corporate existence," he said in urging the public to support the agency's efforts.

"We must keep in mind that the illicit drug culture is under attack and poses a threat to our society, children, young, and ultimately, our culture and future. Therefore, we must fight this terrifying creature together. Your assistance to the NDLEA, particularly through the provision of important intelligence, will significantly help to stop the abuse and trafficking of illegal substances in our nation.

The delegates of the Emir of Katsina were headed by Hon. Nasir Daura, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Secretary to the Katsina State Government, who stood in for Governor Dikko Umar Radda.
