14 new universities will open under Tinubu's directive.

Due to a shortage of funding, President Bola Tinubu has ordered that the opening of 14 new universities that were approved by his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, be delayed.

This was revealed to State House reporters by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, shortly after their Wednesday meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with the President.

According to Mamman, the Government might better support the Universities if the start dates of those institutions were staggered.

In the future, he added, the government will be "conservative" in approving the creation of new universities.

Then, according to Mamman, "there are quite a few universities and institutions that were approved in the final days of the previous administration, but it may not be prudent to get these institutions to start up altogether at once."

The former vice chancellor of Baze University informed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa that the president had ordered that their start dates be staggered so that the government could adequately support them.
