In Imo, Uzodinma begins the FRSC's 2023 "ember months" campaign.

The governor of Imo, Hope Uzodinma, has reaffirmed his dedication to the state's transportation infrastructure.

Uzodinma addressed during the state's 'ember months' campaign launch for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in 2023.

The Ahiara Motor Park in the Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area served as the site of the event.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the First Lifestyle Fitness Foundation, a non-governmental organization, and the FRSC are working together to organize the campaign.

The governor, who was represented by Mr. Ogunsoya Abimbola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, claimed that his "massive road reconstruction and rehabilitation projects" were proof of his dedication to a safe and effective transportation system.

He expressed gratitude to Dauda Biu, Corps Marshal of the FRSC, for his many initiatives that have supplemented the state's efforts to ensure road safety in Imo.

"I assure the corps of the continuous support of this administration in its efforts to build a safe monitoring environment in the state. The state is cognizant of the critical role performed by the FRSC in the training of first responders and drivers.

To ensure a calm and accident-free driving season, he urged all road users to obey traffic laws.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Imo, Mr. Evaristus Ebeniro, commented on this year's campaign theme: "Speed thrills but kills, drive responsibly and avoid overloading." He said there is always expected to be an increase in movement of people and goods, especially in the southeast during the last quarter of the year.

According to Ebeniro, such activities are typically characterized by motorists' irresponsibility and other transgressions, which ultimately cause traffic accidents that result in injuries, fatalities, and damage to both person and property.

He pleaded with commuters to completely assist the 769 Regular and Special Marshals, who had been strategically placed for the duration of the season for special operations.

"According to the World Health Organization, road traffic accidents are a major source of death and injury worldwide, accounting for 1.35 million fatalities and injuries annually, 90% of which take place in developing nations like Nigeria.

In order to do this, he said, "we applaud the governor for the record repair of more than 1,000 km of roads in both rural and urban parts of the state, which have significantly increased safety on our roadways.

Additionally, Mr. Richards Ebeh, the chairman of the Nigerian Psychological Association in Imo and a representative of the First Lifestyle Fitness Foundation, encouraged commuters to prioritize good nutrition, consistent exercise, and a low alcohol and tobacco intake for the benefit of their mental health.

By putting a priority on mental health, he claimed, "we reduce accidents, save lives, improve the quality of our travels, and better manage our emotions."

The Ahiazu Mbaise LGA Chairman, Mr. Anayo Acharaike, spoke on behalf of the National Union of Road Transport Workers Imo Chairman, Mr. Samuel Udeh, thanking FRSC for the information and pledging the organization's commitment to an accident-free season.

According to NAN, Eze Pius Onyekwere, the traditional chief of Nnarambia Ahiara autonomous community, and members of the Nigeria Police, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Imo attended the occasion.
