Adebayo Taofiq, a spokesman for Lastma, said in a statement that the order was given by Sola Giwa, the special adviser to the governor of Lagos State on transportation, because it was necessary to eliminate any violations preventing free flow of traffic on bridges throughout the state.
Giwa claimed that despite repeated warnings, drivers of commercial buses and cars have persisted in disobeying the government's orders and creating major obstacles along these bridges, which has a detrimental effect on both traffic and the structural integrity of the bridges.
According to him, the current administration is investing significant resources in building typical bus terminals and garages for commercial use.
Every motorist and commercial bus driver on the "Apongbon" and "Idumota" (Cater) Bridges, "Elegbata," "Ebute-Ero," and "Ejalonibu" must urgently leave these areas because LASTMA will immediately start strict enforcement operations until zero tolerance is achieved throughout the state.
The Special Adviser further stated that the requirements of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 as amended are broken by the actions of these motorists and commercial bus drivers on bridges.
He declared that any vehicles in violation will be charged right away to the Lagos State Mobile Court for prosecutions after the ultimatum expired.
