Pipeline surveillance not tea party, desist from attacks – CSO calls out agitators

The Conference of Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) has expressed its disapproval of the actions of those who are determined to incite controversy within the political sphere around the allocation of pipeline surveillance contracts within the oil and gas industry.

The organization issued a warning, emphasizing that Pipeline monitoring is a complex and challenging task. They emphasized that the primary focus of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) is to prioritize the establishment of a secure and reliable oil infrastructure and operational pipeline corridor. This is crucial in order to consistently achieve the national production targets in a sustainable manner.

During a press conference on Sunday, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) criticized former militants who are demanding to be given important responsibilities and contracts. The CSO emphasized that recent events have demonstrated that Pipeline Surveillance is a serious matter, and being an ex-militant does not automatically qualify someone for such a crucial role. It was clarified that the CSO's remarks were not directed personally towards the management of NNPC Limited or its CEO, Mele Kyari. Instead, the focus was on prioritizing what is most beneficial and suitable for the country.

In his remarks, Dominic Ogakwu, the President of the organization, highlighted the notable progress in Nigeria's oil production during this era. He emphasized the successful efforts in mitigating the rampant theft of Nigeria's oil by criminal entities. This endeavor has resulted in numerous instances of tankers being confiscated due to their transportation of illicit crude oil, as well as the identification of a four-kilometer illicit oil connection line extending from Forcados Terminal into the sea. Notably, this unlawful operation had been ongoing for a duration of nine years.

Nigerians may reasonably hold the belief that individuals who have benefited from this abhorrent economic wrongdoing will retaliate using whatever means available to them, since their personal interests are jeopardized.

The dissemination of inaccurate information and unsupported claims regarding the rehabilitation of oil pipelines and surveillance contracts has been a favored tactic among individuals lacking loyalty to their country.

It is evident to conscientious Nigerians that certain individuals are exerting significant efforts to gain unrestricted access to and use state resources for their own benefit.

Presently, our nation is seeing a notable surge in oil production, surpassing a daily output of 1.8 million barrels. Furthermore, we have successfully reclaimed our status as the foremost crude oil producer in Africa, surpassing Algeria's production of 1.021 million barrels per day and Angola's production of 1.088 million barrels per day.

We strongly encourage individuals who are determined to undermine the transformative leadership of President Bola Tinubu to reconsider their stance and cease engaging in futile protests and making threats.
