On Monday, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, initiated the commencement of the second phase of food distribution to individuals in need. This initiative is aimed at alleviating the adverse effects of subsidy removal inside the state.


Yusuf explicitly stated that anybody within his cabinet, including political appointees and senior public workers, should not be eligible to receive any benefits from the food products.

During the distribution event held at Coronation Hall, Government House, Yusuf alluded to the government's acquisition of 193,000 bags of 10kg Rice and 193,000 bags of 10kg Maize. These provisions are intended to be disbursed to individuals who are economically disadvantaged, vulnerable, and those with specific needs. The distribution will encompass all 484 political wards within the state.


In addition, the recipients of the benefits include Islamiyya Schools, social and rehabilitation facilities, individuals with special needs, junior civil servants ranging from level 1 to 8, widows, and orphans of deceased personnel from the Army, Navy, Airforce, Police, DSS, Immigration, Customs, NDLEA, Prisons, NSCDC, VIO, Vigilante, and Kwankwasiyya guard.


Yusuf revealed that in addition to the provision of food products, his administration has finalized a strategy to introduce additional social components aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by the populace.


As per his statement, a total of 5,000 individuals comprising women, youths, and People With Special Needs from 44 local government areas will receive empowerment through various skill development initiatives.


In order to mitigate the effects of the economic difficulties on transportation and mobility of individuals, the Governor has announced that the distribution of Amana buses and the implementation of a taxi transport program will be initiated in the near future.


The individual further stated that the Kanawa mass transit system, formerly implemented by the preceding administration, will be reintroduced with subsidized fares.
