Imo guber: Religious leaders petition God for help and demand a free and fair election

Religious leaders inside Imo State have conducted prayers, seeking divine intervention for the next gubernatorial election within the region.

The appeal was sent to the inhabitants of Imo, urging them to embrace and provide support for endeavors aimed at ensuring the forthcoming state election is conducted in a genuine and peaceful manner.

The appeal was made by religious leaders at a one-day interactive meeting with the management team of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state. The meeting took place in Owerri.

Rev. Eches Divine Eches, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Imo State chapter, and Prince Bashir Muhammed Uwakwe, Chairman of the Imo State Muslim Council, along with other individuals, have expressed their commitment to providing assistance in order to ensure that the upcoming gubernatorial election fulfills the aspirations of the populace.

The commendation was also extended to the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof. Sylvia Agu, for her unwavering commitment in ensuring a smooth conduct of the election exercise.

During his previous remarks, Professor Agu mentioned that the conference, which included the participation of faith-based groups, was coordinated by the Commission in anticipation of the upcoming gubernatorial election set for November 11th in the state.

Emphasizing the significant roles played by religious leaders as catalysts for change and influencers of public opinion, she made a plea for their help in assisting the Commission's endeavor to enhance overall performance in the entirety of the undertaking.

According to her statement, it is evident that we are well-informed of the conditions that have led our state to conduct an off-cycle election. Specifically, our gubernatorial elections are scheduled to take place on November 11th, coinciding with the polls in Bayelsa and Kogi States.

Hence, it is imperative to convene a collective gathering in order to request your customary collaboration in the endeavor of raising awareness among your constituents to actively participate in the aforementioned undertaking.

She further expressed, "Each of you possesses the qualities of a supermodel and, consequently, holds significant influence in shaping the attitudes and perspectives of the voting population." Individuals possess the capability to effectively involve others and foster their transformation into individuals who exhibit a strong sense of patriotism.

I thus request your collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in promoting awareness and motivating your constituents to engage actively in the electoral process. This entails facilitating the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), ensuring their participation in voting on election day, and safeguarding their votes in accordance with established electoral protocols. You possess the capability to effectively manage this situation.

The individual expressed a request for ongoing prayers for the nation, asserting that success will be achieved with the support of a divine entity.
