Police: Suspended UNICAL employee not taken hostage, but rather taken into custody

On Thursday, the police in Cross River refuted the claim of the purported Kidnapping of Prof. Cyril Ndifon, a suspended Professor of Law and the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar.

According to the official statement made by SP Irene Ugbo, a police spokesman in Calabar, it has been clarified that Ndifon's situation does not qualify as a kidnapping incident, as he was apprehended by government security officials.

The author observed that the alleged kidnapping was intended to incite fear and anxiety.

The Law Enforcement Authorities affirm that Professor Ndifon was not subjected to a kidnapping incident, as previously suspected. Instead, he was apprehended by a government security agency for the purpose of conducting an interrogation.

Law Enforcement Authorities further recommend that individuals refrain from giving credence to material circulating on social media platforms on the alleged kidnapping, since it is deemed to be subversive.

Ugbo asserted that the statement in question is deceptive and strategically designed to induce alarm or disrupt the prevailing level of harmony.

She provided assurance that the law enforcement authorities would diligently investigate the origin of the "offensive rumor".

According to David Ndifon, the son of the professor, their residence in Akpabuyo, located in the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River, was attacked by armed individuals who proceeded to discharge firearms in an indiscriminate manner. Subsequently, the assailants abducted the professor from the premises.

According to his statement, the occurrence occurred throughout the time frame spanning from 11 p.m. on Wednesday to the early hours of Thursday.

David expressed his commitment to ensuring the safe return of the individual by stating that diligent efforts have been made and appropriate actions have been taken.

Ndifon has been subjected to a suspension by the institution due to claims pertaining to various misconducts, including sexual harassment of students.
