Alia: Benue bears a debt of N359 billion.

According to the statements made by Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, it has been revealed that the state's debt profile is N359 billion, which is in contrast to the N187.7 billion debt figure previously reported by his predecessor, Samuel Ortom.

During the Interdenominational Church Service held on Sunday at the Methodist Church, South Bank, Makurdi, Governor Alia made a public announcement regarding this matter, in commemoration of the 63rd Independence Anniversary celebration.

According to his statement, the substantial Debt inherited from prior administrations posed an excessive load on the state.

Governor Alia expressed a strong dedication and unwavering determination in his government's endeavors to rectify the state's issues and rescue it from the burden of debt, which arose due to the misguided prioritization of the preceding administration in the state.

According to Alia, the current debt burden of our state amounts to N359 billion. If the repayment is initiated, what would be the projected duration for its completion? However, prior to our arrival, we were aware of the preexisting condition of the pot, which was already cracked. We shall undertake measures to rectify the situation as it aligns with the mandate bestowed upon us by our constituents through the electoral process.

Governor Alia asserted that his administration has implemented measures to guarantee the timely disbursement of salaries to Benue state employees on the 25th day of each month. Furthermore, he emphasized that any previous oversight regarding pensioners has been rectified, ensuring their rightful inclusion in the payment process.

The individual expressed that their administration was well equipped to address the challenges hindering progress within the state, attributing their ascension to power to a divine purpose. They further emphasized their commitment to facilitating optimal development within the state.

Governor Alia has encouraged the residents of the state to consider investing in agricultural activities that align with their comparative advantage, citing the significant economic potential within this sector.

He recommended that they capitalize on the opportunities presented by cassava cultivation, given that the region is renowned for its significant contributions to the national production of cassava and yams.

Governor Alia expressed strong disapproval of the actions carried out by unauthorized miners in certain regions of the state. Additionally, the governor acknowledged that the state possesses substantial untapped resources and pledged that the administration will implement steps to fully capitalize on the potential of this sector.

It is imperative that all instances of illicit mining within the state be immediately halted. According to the speaker, any truck entering the state for that specific reason must possess the authorization of both the Federal and state governments.

The speaker urged the clergy and traditional leaders to assume a proactive role in spearheading efforts to eradicate various forms of criminal behavior inside the state, including as banditry, kidnappings, and the disruption of agricultural activity.
