Prior to today's 1pm National Working Committee (NWC) swearing-in of newly appointed members, over 100 police officers have taken control of the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat.
At the same time, demonstrators protesting against several recently elected NWC members broke into the party secretariat.
The party secretariat is located in Wuse 2, Abuja, where the police blocked traffic by barricading Blantyre Street.
Discontentment in the party was brought on by Wednesday's introduction of the new NWC members.
In order to replace Yakubu Ajaka, the ruling party appointed Duro Meseko (Kogi State) as the deputy National Publicity Secretary for the North Central Zone. At the same time, Ikani Shuaibu Okolo (Kogi State) assumed the role of zonal organizing secretary for the North Central Zone.
At the announcement, James Faleke, a contender for the job of Deputy National Publicity secretary, defeated Yahaya Bello, a candidate for governor of Kogi State.
Bello arrived at the secretariat early on Thursday morning under this backdrop.
It's thought that his presence increased the tension in the area around the secretariat.
Additionally, the party named Edo State native Mary Alile Idele as National Women Leader for the South South Zone. Idele, not Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo, Beta Edu's nominee for the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, is the choice of Adams Oshiomhole.
In Abia State, it was also claimed that the candidates supported by the State Chairman, Ikechi Emenike, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, both lost to the nominee for Governor Hope Uzodimma.
