Kebbi: In July, customs detained drugs worth N22 million and made N99 million.

At the Kamba border in Kebbi State, the Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Command, claimed to have seized 138 packs of tramadol/tramakings worth N22 million.

Dr. Ben Oramalugo, the Comptroller of Customs, said this at the headquarters in Birnin Kebbi. He added that the command also seized 46 bags of foreign parboiled rice weighing 50 kg, 40 bags weighing 25 kg, 88 bales of used clothing, 4,200 liters of PMS, and 525 liters of diesel in addition to 81 table-size Cannabis sativa and a Toyota Camry transporting the drugs.

Oramalugo added that his command was able to intercept the products as a consequence of the sustained coordination with pertinent units and other security agencies at border points in the state. He claimed to have given the narcotics to NDLEA Commander Usman Suleiman.

He added that even though the border closure caused by the coup d'etat in the neighboring Niger Republic severely hindered the command's efforts to generate money, it still managed to earn N99,282,547 in July. He also stated that the duty-paid worth of the products confiscated is N51,499,314.
