STORY:

The opening title card reads:

'Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away...' There is a civil war going on. The evil Galactic Empire has been defeated for the first time by rebel spaceships attacking a hidden base. Secret plans for the armored space station known as the DeathStar, the Empire's most potent weapon and capable of annihilating an entire planet, were obtained by Rebel spies during the conflict. Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) races home on her starship after being pursued by the evil agents of the Empire. She is the custodian of the stolen plans that have the power to save her people and bring freedom to the galaxy.

We see a pitched battle between two starships orbiting the desert planet Tatooine after the opening crawl. The frame moves down in the star field. The Tantive IV, a small Rebel blockade runner, is being pursued by the Devastator, a massive Imperial star destroyer. "3PO" comes to the conclusion that escaping capture will be impossible as the protocol droid C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and utility droid R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) are tossed about inside as their ship is hit by laser bolts. The Radical boat is so intensely harmed that its primary power reactor should be closed down. It is trapped in the Magnificent destroyer's transportation force, maneuvered into the hold of the bigger boat, and boarded by stormtroopers from the Realm's 501st Army.

In the corridors of the Rebel ship, a massive firefight breaks out, resulting in the deaths of numerous Rebel soldiers. Darth Vader, also known as David Prowse; voice: Before questioning the ship's captain, Antillies, who claims that the ship is on a diplomatic mission to the planet Alderaan, James Earl Jones, a man in a black cape, black armor, and a black helmet that covers all of his features, briefly examines the damage. Noting that a consular ship would have an ambassador aboard, Vader realizes that he is lying. Princess Leia Organa, a diplomat, is actually on board, but she is hiding from Vader, the Empire's second-in-command, which tends to support Vader's theory that someone is doing something on this ship.) Vader strangles the captain when he discovers that "the plans" were not downloaded onto the ship's computer. He then instructs the troops to conduct a thorough search of the ship and bring every passenger to him alive.

Both C-3PO and R2-D2 survive the firefight without being injured. R2-D2 gets together with Princess Leia, who loads him with the taken plans and records a holographic directive for the little droid to take to the planet's surface. C-3PO and R2-D2 escape the ship in an escape pod and travel to the planet below; Because their scans show that there is no living thing on board, Imperial troops decide not to destroy the pod because they think it exploded because of a problem. Minutes after the fact the princess is staggered by Royal soldiers and taken to Vader. He informs her that the Rebels have transmitted some secret Imperial plans to her ship. She pretends to be ignorant and tells Vader that she is a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan, but Vader doesn't believe her and orders her to be taken away. Vader's auxiliary assistant, Authority Jir (Al Lampert), demands that holding her hostage is hazardous; fresh insight about her bondage would produce compassion toward the defiance to the Domain. By faking Leia's accidental death, Vader instructs Jir to deceive the Senate and permanently wipe out any trace of her whereabouts. He concludes that the Princess hid the stolen plans in the pod after hearing from another officer that an empty escape pod was destroyed during the firefight.

R2-D2 and C-3PO arrive on the desert planet; R2-D2 specifies a mission to convey a few plans, however C-3PO is more worried about remaining in one piece to the point of tracking down development. A small group of scavengers known as Jawas eventually capture the two after they split up. R2-D2 and C-3PO are the Jawas' most recent investments, making them junk traders. In the meantime, a group of Imperial Sandtroopers locates the downed spaceship, locating droid parts and tracks that lead away from the crash site.

The Jawas eventually arrive at Owen Lars' (Phil Brown) moisture farmer's homestead after traveling to the Great Chott Salt Flat settlement to sell equipment and droids to the local homesteaders. The farmer purchases C-3PO for his translation abilities because he is proficient in six million languages. However, at first, he decides to purchase R5-D4, a utility droid that is less expensive but breaks down almost immediately after being purchased. The Jawas offer R2 as a replacement in an effort to avoid being accused of selling poor goods. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Owen's young 18-year-old nephew, is told to clean them up and put them to use. Luke intended to meet some friends in the nearby town of Anchorhead, but he has to cancel his plans because he has to work. During the cleanup, Luke coincidentally finds a short clasp of the message put away in R2 by Princess Leia. A desperate request for assistance is addressed to "Obi-Wan Kenobi" in the message. Luke is intrigued by Leia's beauty and insists on hearing the entire message, despite R2's assertion that the message is just a malfunction ("old data"). R2 then, at that point, expresses that assuming Luke eliminates his limiting bolt, he could possibly play the remainder of the message. R2 doesn't play the message and says he doesn't know what Luke is talking about when Luke takes out the bolt. Luke asks C-3PO to finish cleaning R2 after Luke is called away for dinner because he forgot to replace the bolt that will keep R2 within the confines of the moisture farm.

During supper, Luke tells his auntie and uncle that the droids may have a place with somebody called Obi-Wan Kenobi. Uncle Owen is greatly disturbed by this information, but he won't say why. Luke inquires as to whether Obi-Wan is related to Ben Kenobi, a hermit who lives several miles away in the Dune Sea region, a vast area of sand and rocky canyons. Owen asserts that Obi-Wan is dead and that Ben is "just a crazy old man." Owen makes a comment that suggests Obi-Wan Kenobi knew Luke's long-deceased father, Anakin. However, when Luke asks Owen for more information, his uncle quickly changes the subject and tells Luke to forget about the droids the next morning. Luke - who desires to venture out from home for preparing at a close by Majestic Military Foundation to turn into a space pilot - leaves the room irately to get back to cleaning the droids. Luke's Auntie Beru (Shelagh Fraser) lets Owen know that Luke is an excess of like his dad to stay with them, however Owen holds out trust that Luke's craving for experience will die down - and communicates a trepidation that Luke is a lot of like his dad... proposing that Owen might know something of Anakin's horrendous past.

Luke finds out after dinner that R2-D2 has gotten away to find Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke tells 3PO that it is too late to look for R2 because there are dangerous Sand People (also known as Tusken Raiders) in the area. Instead, they will go look for him first thing in the morning (hopefully before Owen finds out that Luke forgot about his latest investment).

The next morning, Luke and 3PO set out in Luke's landspeeder to track down R2. They catch up to him after they locate him on the scanner. R2 informs them as soon as they locate him that his own scanner is picking up a number of creatures that are closing in on them. Luke fears the Sand Public have tracked down them, and affirms it utilizing a bunch of minoculars. One of them sneaks up on them and hits Luke in the head, knocking him unconscious. C-3PO crashes down the sand dune's side. R2 flees and conceals.

The sound of a vicious beast scares the Sand People away after they steal some parts from Luke's speeder. The sound is coming from a shadowy figure in a hood. The figure examines Luke before removing his hood to reveal his features. Luke is gently rubbed on the forehead by the elderly man with the beard. Ben Kenobi (Alec Guinness) is quickly recognized by Luke when he approaches the man. Luke lets the man know that his droid cases to have a place with an Obi-Wan Kenobi. The old man is shocked by this information, so he reveals—with an expression of ancient mystery on his face—that he is Obi-Wan Kenobi, but that he hasn't used that name in a long time. They visit Obi-Wan's house to discuss the situation after saving C-3PO.

Luke learns at Obi-Wan's house that Obi-Wan knew Anakin and that they were both Jedi Knights of the Old Republic and veterans of the "Clones Wars" that were discussed. Luke's uncle had informed him that his father was a spice freighter navigator; Owen had either been attempting to keep Luke safe or trying to shield Luke from the truth about his father. Note: Other than the fact that Luke's father was killed in the line of duty, Owen does not appear to be aware of the truth about him. Obi-Wan then creates Anakin's lightsaber, an energy sword which was the picked weapon of the Jedi Knights; he appears to have guarded it for quite a while. He tells Luke that Anakin wanted the weapon for Luke when he was old enough, but Owen wouldn't take it. According to Obi-Wan, a Jedi derives his power from the Force, an energy field that "surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together" and is created by all living things. Yet, there is likewise a Clouded Side to the Power, which draws power from pessimistic feelings and baser driving forces. This Dark Side lured a young Jedi named Darth Vader, who was once a student of Obi-Wan. Vader deceived and killed Anakin, then turned into the Dull Master of the Sith, the most dreaded implementer of the Head. In this limit, he continued to chase down his previous friends, and the Jedi Request is presently everything except terminated.

At this point, Obi-Wan instructs R2 to play the entire message from Princess Leia. The princess urges Obi-Wan to join the Rebellion against the Empire and reminds him of his service to her father during the Clone Wars. She informs Obi-Wan that she has embedded information essential to the rebellion in R2's memory banks when she realizes that her mission to bring Obi-Wan to Alderaan has been unsuccessful. She reiterates her plea that he is now her "only hope" and asks Obi-Wan to deliver the droid to her father on Alderaan so that the information can be retrieved.

Due to his advanced age, Obi-Wan is unable to attempt such a mission alone, so he advises Luke to learn the ways of the Force and accompany him to Alderaan. Luke insists that he must remain on Tatooine and assist his uncle, and that he cannot leave. Despite the fact that the young woman in the message has not made any personal requests for assistance, Obi-Wan responds that Luke needs to assist both the Rebellion and the young woman in the message. They decide to go to Anchorhead so Obi-Wan can book a ride to the spaceport on Mos Eisely.

At the Death Star, a massive space station resembling a small moon, the Devastator has docked. Vader meets Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin (portrayed by Peter Cushing), a high-ranking governor of the Imperial Outland Regions. They enter a conference room, where they attend a high-level conference with the Command Triumvirate leaders of the station: Other Imperial officers include Chief Officer Mordramin Bast (Leslie Schofield), High General Cassio Tagge (Don Henderson), and Admiral Antonio Motti (Richard LeParmentier). As the Triumvirs squabble over the most effective way to take advantage of their freshest "innovative dread," Tarkin lets them know that the Sovereign has chosen to disintegrate the Royal Senate; using the Death Star to intimidate all of the Empire's star systems into submission, implying that fear of force is preferable to its actual use, and handing over complete control of the galaxy's star systems to each of the regional governors he appoints. The new space station, according to Admiral Motti, is "the ultimate power in the universe." However, General Tagge insists that the Rebels will discover that the Death Star is not invincible if they can read its schematics. They are told by Vader that the Force's power is greater than the ability to destroy a planet. Motti makes a mockery of Vader's Jedi heritage by noting that the Force has not assisted him in locating the headquarters of the Rebellion or recovering the stolen schematics. Motti is strangled by Vader using the Force until Tarkin tells him to stop. The commanders decide to concentrate on questioning Leia until she gives up the Rebel Headquarters' location. In order to kill two birds with one stone, they will then use the Death Star to destroy it.

The Jawa sandcrawler, which Luke and his companions are using to get to Anchorhead, has been completely destroyed, and all of the Jawas have been killed; Even though they appear to be the Sand People's victims, Obi-Wan notices signs that point to an Imperial stormtrooper attack. Luke races home over Obi-Wan's objections that he is likely putting his own life in danger to warn Owen and Beru, realizing that the only reason Imperial troops would kill Jawas is to find the droids that escaped the battle.

Luke, however, arrives too late. It would appear that the Imperials have arrived and left, set fire to the homestead, and killed his aunt and uncle. Luke tells Obi-Wan that he has no reason to stay and wants to go with him to Alderaan. Obi-Wan has used the opportunity provided by Luke's trip to show the Jawas who were massacred some dignity. More importantly, he makes the declaration that he wants to learn how to use the Force and become a Jedi like his father.

Now, Luke, Obi-Wan, and the two droids travel to Mos Eisley, Tatooine's capital and spaceport. Luke and the droids are warned by Obi-Wan prior to entering the city that Mos Eisley is a hotbed of criminal activity and near-lawlessness. Luke guarantees Obi-Wan that he knows how to deal with himself in a battle. After entering the spaceport they are moved toward by Majestic soldiers at a detour posing inquiries about the two droids they have with them. The lead guard appears to be put into a trance-like state by Obi-Wan, convincing him that these aren't the droids they're looking for. Obi-Wan explains that the Force can have a significant impact on the naive when Luke is perplexed by the ease of their passage.

Luke fights two criminals, a deformed human named Dr. Evazan and his alien companion Ponda Baba, who both threaten to kill him at the Mos Eisley Cantina. At the point when one of the animals threatens to use a firearm on Kenobi, the old Jedi Knight protects himself with his lightsaber - slicing off the animal's weapon arm before it can shoot. They meet smuggler Han Solo (Harrison Ford), captain of the Millennium Falcon, and his first mate, 7-foot-tall, 200-year-old Wookiee Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). Captain Solo offers 10,000 credits for the trip after learning that Obi-Wan and Luke are attempting to avoid Imperial capture. Luke shrugs off that cost, expressing that they could nearly purchase their own boat for that, yet Han is questionable that they could fly it themselves. Solo is informed by Obi-Wan that they will give him 2,000 credits at this time and 15,000 more once they reach Alderaan. Han concurs.

Han tells Chewbacca that 17,000 credits could really save his neck after Luke and Obi-Wan leave. Han stays behind to pay their bar tab while Chewbacca goes to get ready for the flight. Greedo, played by Maria De Aragon and Paul Blake, a bounty hunter for the feared crimelord Jabba Desilijic Tiure, aka: Hutt the Jabba. Han was reportedly hired by Jabba earlier in the day to transport a shipment of glitterstim spice, an illegal narcotic. However, an unexpected Imperial board forced Han to discard the shipment. Han insists that he has the 8,000 credits he needs to cover the loss as Greedo points a blaster pistol at Solo and pushes him toward a private area of the bar. Han is forced to admit that he does not actually have the money at this time when Greedo suggests that Solo give it to him as a bribe for not turning him over to Jabba. Solo quietly removes his heavy pistol from under the table after realizing that Greedo will either surrender to Jabba or kill him in exchange for the bounty Jabba has placed on him. When Greedo admits that he would rather see him dead than alive, Solo fires ahead of time and kills him. Han offers the bartender a few coins as a token of his regret for "the mess" he left behind.

Han is confronted by Jabba the Hutt and a number of his associates at the docking bay. Han is reminded of the nature of their business by Jabba, who expresses frustration over Greedo's passing; To avoid appearing weak, he cannot "make any exceptions" for those who fail or cross him. Han insists that he needs more time, but he will soon have enough money to pay off his debt, including interest. Despite Jabba's warning that this is Han's last chance, he reluctantly agrees.

Luke sells his landspeeder to fund-raise for their underlying installment to Chief Performance. They head to the docking sound where the Thousand years Bird of prey is being ready for flight. Luke is fairly irritated to find that the Bird of prey is a 60-year-old, once-over YT-1300 vessel, however Han guarantees him that he has made broad changes to guarantee that she can totally dominate any cutting edge capital boat. In the interim, Majestic soldiers accept they are hot on the path of the two droids when a nearby witness lets them know the whereabouts of the criminals subsequent to perceiving Luke and Obi-Wan.

No sooner do Luke, Obi-Wan and the droids board the Thousand years Bird of prey than the Supreme soldiers come running into the docking inlet, expecting to capture Luke and Obi-Wan and catch the droids. The soldiers fire at Solo and the Hawk, however the boat figures out how to get away. When they clear the planet, they are quickly sought after by two tremendous Magnificent star destroyers. Solo comments that his travelers should be specifically noteworthy to the Realm. They leap to light speed, getting away from the Majestic boats.

Princess Leia has been tormented by the Imperials and gone through a brain test with an end goal to separate the area of the Radicals' headquarters. They have don't tracked down anything. Tarkin, Vader, and Motti shift strategies, taking steps to annihilate the Princess' home planet of Alderaan on the off chance that she will not uncover the Dissidents' area. She hesitantly lets them know that the Agitator base is in the world Dantooine. Tarkin then arranges his officials to continue with Alderaan's obliteration, taking note of that Dantooine is excessively remote to make a successful exhibit of the Demise Star's power. Alderaan is obliterated by a solitary impact from the Passing Star's tremendously strong laser blaster while Leia is compelled to watch.

On board the Thousand years Bird of prey, Obi-Wan is preparing Luke in the ways of the Power when he is significantly upset by a quake in the Power. He feels that huge number of individuals have passed on in a moment in the midst of extraordinary torment, however he doesn't have any idea how. He chooses to think deeply about this further as Luke proceeds with a practice in permitting the Power to direct his reflexes. Han isn't dazzled, and makes sense of that he doesn't have faith in the Power. Luke, be that as it may, figures out how to utilize his lightsaber to redirect four laser bolts in succession from a remote droid - all while wearing a cap which covers his eyes.

Back on the Passing Star, Tarkin and Vader get a report that there used to be to be sure a Radical base on Dantooine however it has since a long time ago been deserted. Offended at Leia's fruitful craftiness, Tarkin orders her planned for execution.

Luke understands that he is figuring out how to detect the Power. One of the Bird of prey's signs illuminates them that they are moving toward Alderaan, yet after leaving light speed, they find the Thousand years Hawk is in a space rock field rather than Alderaan's circle. Han affirms that they are in the right area yet that the planet is missing; Obi-Wan unobtrusively expresses that the planet has been obliterated by the Domain, however Solo laughingly demands that every one of the Realm's boats joined wouldn't have sufficient capability to annihilate a planet. Minutes after the fact they are overflown by a Magnificent Twin Particle Motor (TIE) snubfighter. Obi-Wan finishes up it is excessively little for long reach flight, so there should be a Majestic base or boat close by. As they pursue the contender to hold it back from telling the Realm of their area, they see the warrior making a beeline for a little moon - the Demise Star. They are trapped in the Demise Star's transportation force and, powerless to oppose, are maneuvered on board the station into a docking narrows. Obi-Wan lets them know that neither battling or give up are feasible decisions, however a third choice is accessible to them.

Royal soldiers board the Hawk, however its group are concealing in sneaking compartments beneath the floor. Vader orders checking gear to be brought on board to search for life signs. While remaining close to the Hawk, he detects a presence he has not felt for quite a while. Vader leaves the overhang, sought after by the disappointing sense he is neglecting something critical.

While a checking groups blocks the Bird of prey to set their gear, Luke and Solo figures out how to overwhelm them and draws the two watching stormtroopers right external on board too to kill them both and take their defensive layer garbs. The head protectors disguise their character and permit them to invade a troop war room outside the docking port. Inside the war room, R2 connects to the station PC framework and finds the area of the transportation force generator. Obi-Wan embarks to close down the generator with the goal that the boat can depart. Luke needs to go with him, however Obi-Wan requests Luke to remain, noticing that Luke's predetermination presently divides ways from his own. Maybe detecting that this is the last time he will see Luke in this reality, he tells Luke, "The Power will accompany you... continuously."

After Obi-Wan leaves, R2 finds that the princess is being kept hostage on board the station. Luke unexpectedly steps up, pulling out all the stops to persuade Solo and Chewbacca to help him in the thing is certainly going to be an extremely unsafe salvage. Han, at first terrified for his own neck, in the end concurs, yet solely after Luke proposes that an extraordinary money related prize would unquestionably follow her salvage. Luke and Han take Chewbacca "hostage" and accept their officer personalities to penetrate the jail block. In the jail block, the official in order becomes dubious of their appearance since he was not told about any detainee move. Thus, Luke and Han's accompanied "detainee" get away and a firefight emits between the Imperials and Luke, Han, and Chewbacca. They figure out how to take out every one of the Imperials, yet set off a caution simultaneously. A crew of troops are shipped off examine. Han and Luke realize they have just minutes to track down the princess' cell and break.

They track down the princess, however the showing up troops cut off the main break course. Leia shoots an opening in a trash chute and advises everybody to make a plunge. They get away from the Imperials, just to wind up caught in a huge waste disposal unit. To exacerbate the situation, the compactor likewise houses a huge, snake like animal - the dianoga - which yanks Luke under the dinky, stale water in the compactor, nearly suffocating him. The animal mysteriously lets Luke go, however similarly as they pause and rest, the compactor enacts and the walls start to move in, taking steps to squash Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca. Luke calls 3PO on the communicator and orders him to have R2 closed down all waste disposal units in the confinement level. R2 agrees with perfect timing to save them and afterward open their compactor's entryway to let them out.

In the mean time, Vader illuminates Tarkin that he faculties through the Power that Kenobi is on board the station. Tarkin is dubious, yet the conversation is before long hindered by a crisis report: Princess Leia has gotten away! Vader tells a stunned and confused Tarkin the genuine clarification for Leia's unimaginable departure - "Obi-Wan is here. The Power is with him." Detecting that Obi-Wan wishes a last confrontation, Vader embarks to track down him. Unbeknownst to anybody, Kenobi has deactivated the transportation force generator.

After their getaway from the compactor, Luke and Han discard their stormtrooper defensive layer, yet keep the officers' tool belts and weapons. Coming back to the boat they're removed by additional soldiers. They are separated, with Han and Chewbacca battling together and Luke and Leia running all alone.

Subsequent to being cornered between an extraordinary ventilation duct and a gathering of officers, Luke shoots a shoot entryway's controls with his blaster, locking the soldiers on the opposite side of the entryway. Tragically, the impact additionally obliterates the controls that expand the extension across the ventilation duct. After a gunfight with stormtroopers on the opposite side of the shaft, Luke utilizes a link and catching snare from his newly seized Majestic tool belt to swing himself and Leia securely across the canyon.

Obi-Wan, coming back to the Hawk, experiences Vader. They trade thorned remarks. Vader gloats to his previous expert that he is a lot more experienced and strong than he was the last time they met that the tables have now turned, with Vader the more impressive of the two. Obi-Wan answers that Vader's chance to evil has made him unaware of the Power's actual power. A savage lightsaber duel follows.

Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca meet at the entry to the docking inlet. The lightsaber duel on the opposite side of the inlet occupies the soldiers watching the boat, permitting them four, alongside R2 and 3PO, to sneak across to board the Hawk. As Kenobi and Vader keep on battling, Kenobi illuminates Vader that in the event that Vader strikes him down, he will turn out to be considerably more remarkable, past what Vader might actually envision. Kenobi, seeing that the four legends and two droids are securely boarding the Hawk, takes one final look from his companion's child to the one who double-crossed him, and smilingly pulls out his saber, permitting Vader to cut through him. His body quickly vanishes. Vader is shocked and befuddled by this, as he discovers that nobody is in Kenobi's presently vacant shroud on the floor.

Luke, horrified by seeing his coach being struck somewhere near Vader, lets out a yell of ghastliness, making every one of the soldiers aware of their presence. Another firefight promptly ejects, and they scarcely make it on board the boat with their lives. Luke stays behind, endeavoring to shoot each Supreme trooper in the shelter, in spite of his companions asking him to go along with them on the boat so they can get away. At long last, he yields, hearing Obi-Wan's voice advising him to run, as Vader gets a brief look at him through a quickly shutting set of impact entryways. At the point when the Hawk flies out of the docking inlet, the Imperials can't initiate the transportation force, on account of Kenobi.

Four Imperial TIE fighters confront them after they blast out of the station's defense range. Luke and Han control two large gun turrets on the Falcon's top and bottom, destroying all four ships. During her rescue, Han begins to brag to Leia about his amazing abilities. In order to locate the Rebel base, she insists that the Empire permit their escape. She informs Han that R2 is transporting the Death Star's technical readouts, raising Han's doubts about that. She has high hopes that the station will be compromised by analyzing the data.

Leia's worries are confirmed as Vader and Tarkin discuss their plan to track the Falcon to the hidden Rebel base back aboard the station. The base, which is on the fourth moon of the gas giant Yavin Prime, is reached by the Falcon. After looking at R2's data, it turns out that the Death Star does have a flaw that can be taken advantage of; a tiny, two-meter exhaust port without any shielding that could be used by a well-placed proton torpedo to destroy the station and get to the main reactor. The port is arranged in a limited channel safeguarded by Overall ARea Guard Combination Hostile to space apparatus Organization (GARDIAN) super lasers. General Dodonna (Alex McCrindle), the commander of the Rebellion, speculates that because the GARDIAN array is intended to ward off large-scale assaults from capital ships, smaller and faster snubfighters could easily outmaneuver it. An arrangement is formulated in which a group of Y-Wing attack planes (Gold Unit, drove by Chief Jon "Dutch" Vander (Angus MacInnes)), will skim the channel. The faster and more maneuverable X-Wing snubfighters of a second squadron known as Red Squadron, commanded by Captain Garven Dreis (Drewe Henley), will attempt to divert enemy fire away from the bombers. Under the call sign of Red Five, Luke will pilot an X-Wing. Wedge Antilles, a fellow pilot played by Dennis Lawson, is unsure if he will succeed, but Luke is confident that it can be done because he used to shoot at animal targets on Tatooine that weren't much bigger than two meters.

Just as the station enters the Yavin system, the Rebels launch an attack on the Death Star. The Passing Star should circle to Yavin's far side to have a shot at the moon on which the base is found. In less than 30 minutes, the approximately 30 Rebel fighters have to fly to the station and destroy it.

As Luke heads to the holder, he is brought together with Biggs Darklighter (Garrick Hagon), who used to fly with Luke on Tatooine. Luke is congratulated by Biggs for finally leaving Tatooine, and Biggs promises him that the upcoming battle will be just like before.

Han refuses to join the fight, stating that his reward will be worthless if he is killed and that he would rather take his money and go pay off his debts. He appears to have also received some unspecified reward for assisting Leia in escaping from the Death Star, in addition to the remaining 17,000 credits he was paid to deliver the plans to the Rebellion. Luke is disappointed, but he boards his fighter and takes off shortly after R2 loads technical assistance into the fighter's rear. He hears what sounds like Obi-Wan saying to him, "The Force will be with you," as they leave. He rapidly excuses it.

Wedge Antilles briefly marvels at the Death Star's size as both squadrons approach before Captain Dreis interrupts the idle conversation and directs the squadrons to attack at lightning speed. Luke makes a run that detonates a massive fire within a portion of the Death Star, which is so large that his own ship sustains minor burns. Red Squadron begins a strafing run on the surface of the station to divert attention from the bombers. At the point when Vader is educated that the GARDIAN super lasers are experiencing difficulty focusing on the little renegade boats, he arranges contenders drove by Dark Unit, his own world class TIE warrior group, to exclusively connect with the X-Wings. Red Squadron scrambles to keep six TIE fighters out of the trenches as soon as six more TIE fighters join the fight. Dreis cautions a partner of a going after TIE contender yet the X-Wing is quickly shot down before Biggs himself goes under assault; Luke swings behind the assailant and destroys him.

Vader sees Dutch and his Y-Wing bunch splitting away from the essential assault. He doles out two Dark Unit pilots, Mauler and Deceiver, to accompany him as he sheets a TIE Progressed x1 contender to draw in the planes himself. Before this order bunch dispatches, the sky fight seethes on and Luke himself goes under assault; Just as Dutch and Gold Squadron begin their assault on the trenches, Wedge saves him by shooting directly into the aggressive TIE fighter.

The Y-Wings are easily outmaneuverable by Vader and his two wingmen, who carefully dispatch each one one by one; Dutch, despite the ire of his surviving wingman, begins to panic after the death of the first pilot, Tyree. Dutch is then killed and the enduring Gold Group transport cuts short his run before he personally is annihilated.

With Gold Unit really cleared out, Dreis orders the enduring X-Wing pilots to begin a subsequent assault run down the channel. Dreis turns on his targeting computer as they approach the exhaust port while two other ships shield him from enemy fire. The accompanying boats are obliterated, however they purchase sufficient time for Dreis to go after the exhaust port. His shot falls short and only hits the surface. His fighter spirals into the station's surface after he loses an engine to Vader's gunfire.

Luke decides to attempt to destroy the port because he is now nominally in charge of Red Squadron. Despite the amount of damage they are taking, R2 is focused on keeping the ship running. They begin their descent into the trench with Biggs and Wedge under his wing. Wedge's ship is partially disabled as they are pursued by Vader and his wingmen moments later. Luke advises Wedge to separate, seeing that he can't be of any assistance in a disabled boat. Wedge is allowed to withdraw, and Vader tells his men to keep going after the two ships in the trench. Biggs' ship is destroyed when Vader fires once more, striking it. Despite his grief over his friend's death, Luke persists.

Luke hears Obi-Wan's voice telling him to "use the Force" and rely more on his instincts than his ship's technology as he gets closer to his target. Luke turns off his targeting computer in response to that advice and continues to fly down the trench. Luke tells Mission Control that nothing is wrong when they ask him why he turned off the computer.

In the mean time, the Demise Star has finished its gone around Yavin and is cleared to fire on the Renegade moon. The firing sequence's countdown begins. After analyzing the attack, Bast informs Tarkin that he has determined that the station poses a real threat. Tarkin denies the idea of evacuation and insists that the Empire will win. While some Imperial officers and troops evacuate as a precaution, he remains on the station.

Vader recognizes the force's power in his prey as Luke uses the Force to help him hit his target. He fires, hitting R2-D2, but the shot misses the ship. Backstabber's ship explodes out of nowhere as he locks on to Luke's ship to kill him. The Millennium Falcon, which just destroyed the Imperial fighter, appears out of nowhere and dives vertically toward Vader and the remaining wingman. Mauler is disoriented by the sudden turn of events; He crashes into Vader's ship after losing control of it. Vader's ship spins out of control up and away from the Death Star after Mauler's ship hits the trench wall and destroys it.

Luke is informed by Han that he is authorized to fire. Luke uses the force to fire his proton torpedoes, which hit the target precisely when they enter the exhaust port. Just as the Death Star is getting ready to fire on the moon, Luke, the Falcon, and a few other fighters race away from the Death Star. The station explodes into a massive fireball just seconds before it fires, sending millions of fragments into space. Most of the senior Imperial staff, including Tarkin, Motti, and Tagge, are killed. Luke is reminded by Kenobi that the Force will always be with him as a result of that victory.

Vader, having been tossed into space during his impact with the partner, is presently obviously the main one to have gotten away from the station's annihilation. When he finally regains control of his wildly writhing fighter, he flies off to meet the Imperial Fleet as the Rebels return to their base. Luke is evidently pleased that Han has returned to assist him when they reach the base. Leia is excited to see both of her companions alive. Additionally, the destruction of the Death Star has thrilled everyone. As R2 is extracted from Luke's ship, their celebration is briefly halted. He does not respond to C-3PO because he has been severely wounded by Vader's gunfire. Luke and two mechanics reassure the golden robot that R2 can be repaired and will survive.

Later, a large hall is used for an awards ceremony. There are hundreds of Rebel officers, pilots, and soldiers present. An entryway at the back of the corridor opens to uncover Luke, Han, and Chewbacca. Along with several dignitaries and leaders of the Rebel Alliance, they walk down the aisle to where Leia is waiting.

A freshly polished C-3PO and a freshly overhauled and looking better than new R2-D2 are also present. Princess Leia smiles as she presents Luke and Han with bravery medals as they approach the front of the great hall. The lobby ejects into deafening adulation.
