Nothing was more exciting than waking up on a Saturday morning in the late 60’s/early 70’s to watch 1 single episode of SPEED RACER. Just one. Not a whole series or binge watching. The perfect morning was SPEED, Froot Loops, Summer and DREAMS of COOL CARS. Many of us experienced that…

But SPEED RACER was more than a show. It was the true essence of the HERO’S JOURNEY. It was about FAMILY, LOVE, KINDNESS as well as REVENGE, RETALIATION and FORGIVENESS. The STORIES were exciting, curious, mysterious and most of all… UNIQUE. Something that today’s HOLLYWOOD could take a lesson from.

It was something you modeled you family life after… even if it was nowhere close. But we wanted to be SPEED, TRIXIE, RACER X or SPRIDLE. Some even wanted to be CHIM CHIM! But more than anything… we wanted THE MACH 5. It was James Bond… if he had a RACE CAR.

Today we celebrate SPEED RACER with a bunch of new cool items IN THE GARAGE. And as always, 10% goes to DOG RESCUES! (Because I couldn’t find a Chim Chim Rescue.)

DID YOU KNOW?? Speed racer was originally titled “Mach GoGoGo” and was first created and designed by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida (1932–1977) as a manga series in the 1960s and made the jump to TV as an anime series in 1967. The actual manga was inspired by Yoshida’s earlier and more popular automobile racing comics, Pilot Ace. Pilot Ace’s main story-line formed the structure for Mach GoGoGo, which followed the adventures of an ambitious young man, who soon became a professional racer. In the series, Speed’s full name was Go Mifune, in homage to Japanese film star Toshiro Mifune. His name… Americanized, became Speed Racer.
